Gareth Thomas to Attend Royal Wedding

Gay rugby star Gareth Thomas will be among the guests attending the royal wedding in April.

Thomas tweeted over the weekend that he had received an invite to Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton.

“Need to buy a new hat? ooops did I say that out loud. Yes I have had an invite to the royal wedding. have you?”

Though the guest list has yet to be confirmed, The Telegraph reported Monday that while Elton John, Kanye West and David and Victoria Beckham are likely to be among the guests, the Obamas aren’t expected to be invited.

School Bans Memoir About HIV/AIDS

Borrowed Time: An AIDS Memoir is a pretty celebrated work in the history of books about the HIV/AIDS crisis. Written by Paul Monette, the book chronicles the life of Monette and his partner, Roger Horwitz, who died of AIDS in 1986. Praised at its release as personalizing “the epidemic’s appalling statistics with heartbreaking clarity,” the book was even a finalist for the 1988 National Book Critics Circle Award.

But if you’re a student at Cheatham Middle School in Tennessee and you want to read the book, you might be tough out of luck. That’s because Borrowed Timehas been removed from the school’s library system, after a parent complained about the book’s subject matter. It’s currently locked in a filing cabinet in the “school’s vault” (according to this news report from WSMV.com), and will eventually be removed from the school entirely.

What a message that sends: that books about the history of HIV/AIDS are vulgar and inappropriate for middle school students.

NEW YORK – Years ago, tall girls often received hormones to stunt their growth — and now as adults they seem to have more difficulty becoming pregnant than women who weren’t treated, a new Dutch study reveals.

The study is the second to show that stunting girls’ growth, which was widely done in Europe, Australia, and the United States starting in the 1950s, may have long-term consequences on their reproductive systems.

The treatment involves high doses of the female hormone estrogen. Purposely stunting the growth of tall girls is less common today, but it’s not unheard of.

The message from the findings needs to reach girls who are considering treatment, because the risk of reduced fertility may outweigh the benefit of reduced height, saidDr. Emile Hendriks, the lead author of the study from theErasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands in email to Reuters Health. “It also needs to reach treated women who need to be well informed when they consider their family planning.”

Kathy Griffin is set to make a guest appearance on Glee as what the casting notice describes as a “recent Tea Party candidate and home schooler — a Sarah Palin type,” reports Huffington Post.

Griffin has been one of the most outspoken critics of the former Vice Presidential candidate. After dating Levi Johnston, father of Palin’s grandson, for publicity, the comedian has continued to use the Palin family for fodder in her stand up act.

This won’t be the first time the Fox hit has referenced Palin. Last year Sue Sylvester (played by Jane Lynch) reprimanded sexually ambiguous cheerleading duo Santana and Brittany, with, “You may be two of the stupidest teens I’ve ever encountered — and that’s saying something. I once taught a cheerleading seminar to Sarah Palin.”

 

Lambert Ready to be Gay Role Model ( to a few)

Adams advice is to close your eyes and be yourself. Thats a great start, but the real challenge is when you open your eyes and  find that, that is when the real work begins. Finding your place in  this world, a safe place to be you. Closing your eyes and getting your footing is awesome, but  your interactions with the world around you will be the path to happiness and self acceptance.

Having Adam as a role model is” off the hook” for some but I think it may also cause some peer pressure and insecurities of its own. It tells young gays ( and the straights) that being gay means you are VERY DIFFERENT, don’t fit into a cookie cutter and that you HAVE to wear outrageous shameful outfits in public that no one but Elton John and Prince should. But what if you are dealing with coming out issues and like to be  preppie or dress from Banana Republic? Are you not as gay as Adam? Is there added pressure to BE WILD, WACKO and CRAY CRAY because thats what “gay is” ? Does this create a split personality to coming out?

Prostitution sting nets 70-year-old woman

Acting on a tip, undercover sheriff’s detectives began surveillance at Mandala Health Spa, 675 Tamiami Trail, and determined the women had received compensation for sexual acts within the business on numerous occasions, according to an arrest report.

Yesterday evening the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant and raided the business.

Arrested were Ann Marie McPeak, 37, of Port Charlotte; Mya Angelica Davis, 28, of Englewood; Collette Marie Bailey, 22, of Port Charlotte and Elaine F. Pyzikiewicz, 70, of Port Charlotte.

Investigators say McPeak is the operator of the business where a client pays a door fee to enter, the Sheriff’s Office reported. Pyzikiewicz has worked at the spa for four months and has the state massage license in her name.

Bailey, Davis and Pyzikiewicz were all charged with remaining in a place for the purpose of prostitution, while McPeak was charged with deriving support from prostitution. Davis was additionally charged with two counts possession of Xanax and Diazapam.

All four women were taken to the Charlotte County Jail, where they later posted bail.
