I cannot believe I am about to say this but, I’m not against men in skirts. I mean, hell, easy access, right? But lets talk about the visuals of mens skirts, not any political jibber-jabber about men being able to wear skirts too. Lets keep it strictly to appearance. What’s this idea of making a skirt look manly? It’s like squeezing a lemon and wanting it to taste like a grape. So, dudes, if you going to throw on a skirt, and let the boys breath down stairs, take a good long look in the mirror and think to yourself, do I actually look good, or do i just like the idea of a skirt.

Feminine style for men is adopted by every designer that matters ? from the tradionalists like Givenchy, Emporio Armani and Calvin Klein to the edgy types such as Ann Demeulemeester, Vivienne Westwood and Commes des Garcons, just to name a few. Sping/Summer 2011 will see a drastic change in the way men dress up and a blurring line between masculinity and femininity. Cropped tees, One-shouldered tops, Leggings and even Skirts are readily introduced to the world of menswear, bringing about a fresh breath to the previously monotonous industry. And the good news is the trend is already catching on!
The men?s skirt has been all over the news lately. Menswear is dramatically re-invented for the 21st century in catwalk show featuring men in designer skirts, dresses, and kilts. Internationally renowned designers re-appropriate the skirt for men, a garment which until relatively recently was reserved for the ladies.
Proper men?s skirts don?t look feminine at all. In fact, when you see a man wearing one of those skirts for men, it displays a lot of strength and confidence. The skirts represent an alternative to conventional menswear, which can be as comfortable and elegant as it is radical. It really does impress people even though it?s only a piece of clothing.
Make your skirts look ?manly?: It’s usually quite easy to find women’s skirts that will match men’s tops like polo shirts, suits or jackets. And if you really want to take things up a notch to the northern part of the body, men can usually wear a great deal of women’s tops. T-shirts and tanks lend themselves to unisex wear quite well.
As a final note, gender flexibility in dress has almost always been more acceptable for the style and fashion oriented crowd. As you can see, we have a strong history of cross-sex trends. This small step develops further to legitimize gender blurring in dress and dissolving ideas of ?heterosexual normalcy,? and thus, opening the creative channels of personal adornment to all economic strata. Contemporary fashion is about pushing limits. No rules, no must, no have-tos, it’s about defining yourself without definitions. Transgress boundaries by disregarding it completely, reinvent it. This is why fashion is sometimes incomprehensible, out there and thus avant garde.
Have fun and play around with different styles and different kinds of clothing. Style and fashion are all about personal choice and in spite of what the snotty little fashion writers like to imagine, there’s really no such thing as ‘in’ or ‘out’. If it compliments you, it is TOTALLY IN!
