Brazilian Volleyball Fans Show Outpouring of Support for Gay Player

by Accidental Bear

Brazilians are not just know for their skimpy man thongs, but starting to get a reputation for tolerance. In the sports arena machismo runs rampant. World, I am addressing you as a whole, lets look over Brazils shoulder and learn a thing or two about compassion.

Last week we mentioned the story of a Brazilian volleyball player (volleyball is huge in Brazil) namedMichael who came out and was heaped with abuse by opposing fans when his team, Volei Futuro, played a match against Sada Cruzeiro. Much of the abuse included having fans yell “Bicha! Bicha!” which translates to “faggot.”

Afterward, Michael discussed being stunned by the chants and fearing it would happen again. Well, it turns out he need not have feared that as both his teammates and other fans are showing him tremendous support. First his teammates wore special pink jerseys during the warm up for a later match and then the team’s “libero” (pictured above with Michael) wore a special rainbow jersey during the match. The crowd also unfurled a huge banner reading “Vôlei Futuro Against Prejudice” and then waved pink “thundersticks” turning the entire stadium pink.

DR. Drew Takes On The ‘EX-GAY’ Discussion (Video)

by Accidental Bear

When I am super rich and famous (any day now) Dr. Drew will be part of my posse watching my back. We have the “Dr.” Phils of the world who make me slightly nauseous , but without ever having a face to face conversation I trust Dr. Drew and think he knows his shit.

Does a talk show host even have to ask the question, “Can you pray the gay away?” to know that the answer is a flat out “no?” Alan Chambers, head of the so-called “ex-gay” organization Exodus International, who just had their app yanked from the Apple store last month, appeared on Dr. Drew’s new HLN talk show Friday night to discuss that very topic.

A gay couple, who actually met during one of Chambers’ so-called “conversion therapy” programs, confronted him on the show and presented themselves as proof that the very idea is absolutely ridiculous.

President Obama as an Ape, Not Cool

by Accidental Bear

Whether you are racist, inbred or other colorful flavors of the United States of America, there are certain things you just don’t do. Marilyn Davenport you should know better. Extend hands out, palms done and let me smack you with a ruler.

Ape Family Joke

California GOP Official Accused Of Racist Email

LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) — A Southern California Republican Party official was under fire Saturday after allegations she sent an email that included an altered photo depicting President Barack Obama as an ape.

An e-mail reportedly sent by party central committee member Marilyn Davenport shows an image, posed like a family portrait, of chimpanzee parents and child, with Obama’s face artificially superimposed on the child. Text beneath the photo reads, “Now you know why no birth certificate.”

Anatomy Of An Outrage of the Day: The “Spring Sphere” Scare

via The Daily What

Anatomy Of An Outrage of the Day: Long story short, MyNorthwest.composted a story regurgitating an exchange between an alleged “local private high school sophomore” named Jessica (no last name given) and KIRO Radio’s right-leaning talk show host Dori Monson, in which the 16-year-old claimed that a third-grade teacher at a public school (which she declined to identify) where she was volunteering told her to call Easter eggs “Spring Spheres.”

It’s a week later and not a single person or place involved in this story has been identified, and no one else has come forward to make a similar claim. In fact, Seattle Public Schools spokeswoman Teresa Wippel said that, despite the story going viral and the slew of angry e-mails and calls, “we haven’t heard if or when it happened.” The district reiterated its “Religion and Religious Accommodation” policy, adding that “There are no new District policies on religion or holiday observance guidelines.”

But that didn’t stop the media from picking up “Spheregate” as accepted fact and blowing it beyond all proportion. “Political correctness takes away ‘Easter’ eggs,” laments The Washington Examiner; “US school renames Easter eggs ‘spring spheres’,” declares the Toronto Star; “War on Easter?” inquires UPI. Yet not a single second source among them.

Antigay Hatred Losing Steam says My Sweet Heart Rep. Frank

by Accidental Bear

We’re not done people. Hatred is like athletes foot, you have to be diligent to ward it off, or it comes right back with a vengeance. The truth is, is that hate is a battle thats not cured with one dose, it will need a life time of treatment.

I day dream at times that Rep. Frank and Rachel Maddow are my parents and wonder what I might be like today.

Rep. Frank: Antigay Hatred Losing Steam

By Advocate.com Editors

BARNEY FRANK CONDUCTS X390 (GETTY) | ADVOCATE.COM

Rep. Barney Frank has little faith there will be a federal remedy for gays seeking to marry anytime soon, but he also believes marriage equality is quickly fading as a controversial issue while antigay prejudice becomes less acceptable in society.

In a May interview with Playboy on subjects ranging from health care reform to the legalization of marijuana, the Massachusetts congressman said, “Overall I think antigay prejudice is on its way out.” READ INTERVIEW
