A. B’s Big Gay Road Trip Stop # 1 Vegas Baby

by Accidental Bear

A flashy, glitzy, decadent mirage in the middle of the desert, Las Vegas is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.  Whether you’re coming to catch a show, gamble or just lounge by the pool at one of the world-class hotels, ‘Sin City’ is the perfect LGBT getaway.  With a number of gay clubs on the Strip and in the Fruit Loop (the ‘gayborhood’), there’s a great time to be had no matter what day you’re in town.

For those of you who like it HOT, Las Vegas is the city for you.  On average, you’ll see the sun shining about 300 days a year and only about a month’s worth of rainfall.  In the summer months expect triple digit temperatures, in the winter months the weather will dip to the high 50’s.

There are taxis everywhere you turn in Las Vegas, looking to take tourists and locals where they need to go.  There is also a bus service, RTC, which serves Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and other suburban areas.

For additional information on local events and activities in the Las Vegas LGBT community, check out The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada website.

On the gaydar:

The Volcano Eruption at the Mirage Hotel

Among the many Las Vegas gay things to do on the strip, starting at 6 pm and ending at 11:30 pm, you can go to the Mirage and witness the eruption of the Volcano. This occurs once every 15 minutes.

Liberace Museum

This museum has a $6.50 entrance fee, but is well worth it. You can see everything possible dealing with the pianist, and spend a lot of time marveling at the wonders this Museum has to offer.

Neon Museum

What is Las Vegas without Neon signs and what’s Me On Neon without at least one mention of the Las Vegas lights. This outdoor museum, that you will find adjacent to the Fremont experience, is the home of some of Las Vegas’ oldest and most recognizable Neon signs.

Gay Beardy David Norris Has Eyes Set as Ireland’s First Gay President

by Accidental Bear

James Joyce railed against family, religion and nationalism as the nets that Ireland casts around its artists and free-thinkers. As the annual celebration of his greatest work, Ulysses, begins those same traditional values have come back to haunt the leading Irish authority on the country’s most famous novelist.

While senator David Norris prepares for the annual Bloomsday festivities – when thousands dress up in Edwardian attire and follow the same mock-epic journey Joyce sent his novel’s protagonist, Leopold Bloom, on – he knows he is also fighting for his political survival.

Chaz Bono to be Grand Marshal of Gay Pride Parade

by Accidental Bear

As always, the roar of the Dykes on Bikes will usher in the San Francisco Pride Parade on the last Sunday in June.

This year’s celebration, the city’s 41st, will feature more than 200 parade contingents, 19 stages and celebrity grand marshal Chaz Bono, the author-activist child of Sonny and Cher who wrote of his recent transformation from a woman to a man in his forthcoming book, “Transition.”
