Beard News: Fake Bearded Robbery, World’s Best Beard, Stroke that Beard Art, Duke Grizzly Andrew…

by Accidental Bear

Woman dresses as man, draws on beard in robbery COTTONDALE, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say a woman who dressed like a man and drew a beard on her face has robbed an Alabama bank. Police say the suspect robbed the Cottondale branch of the Bank of Tuscaloosa and she may have been involved in another bank heist earlier this month. Witnesses told officers she had a “drawn on” beard when she entered the bank. Police say she told tellers she had a bomb and demanded money after placing a device on a counter. She took an undisclosed amount of money and then fled the scene. The FBI and local police are investigating.

Grizzly Andrew: Duke grows grand old beard during 12-day wilderness trek For a man who enjoys a pampered  jetset lifestyle, Prince Andrew seems remarkably comfortable in the wild. In fact, with his Grizzly Adams beard he looks quite the backwoodsman during a boys’ own canoeing expedition in Canada. While aides at home negotiated some choppy waters by revealing he was stepping down from his controversial post as a UK trade ambassador, Andrew was tackling the rapids of the Horton River inside the Arctic Circle.

Another American champion returns home… the man with the world’s bestWorld champ: Burke Kenny poses after winning first place in the full beard with styled moustache category

The world of international facial hair contests is a highly competitive one with participants taking it all very seriously. So Burke Kenny, of Olympia in Washington state, is rightly proud of winning the coveted title of world’s best ‘full beard with styled moustache.’ The 26-year-old has just returned from the World Beard and Moustache Championships in Trondheim, Norway.

Levi’s Made & Crafted

by Accidental Bear

Levi does the body good. Good to the last drop

made crafted 01 selectism Selectism Q&A | Levis Made & Crafted
Levi’s Made & Crafted was founded on a simple premise – “Modern items based on the principles of good design.” In that mission, the Levi’s DNA forms a backbone for forward thinking approaches to classic garments and accessories, all of which privileges the right fabrics and the correct manufacturing. For Autumn 2011 the line, now in its second full season, has expanded to include knits, shirting, and a special capsule collection of “Made in the USA” denim. The looks are contemporary and fresh, but with a decidedly familiar feel; the balance of new and old in the pieces struck admirably. We caught up with the Amsterdam based Made & Crafted design team to chat about the Autumn 2011 collection and to see what the future holds for the line. Our discussion, and some fine garments, after the jump. (Selectism)

Morrissey likens Norway attacks to McDonald’s and KFC

by Accidental Bear

Oh Morrissey, that’s not very nice or sensitive. Stick to singing sad songs. Hell, you can just do remakes of your songs already made and I would be happy. We still havn’t forgotten that you called the Chinese people a “sub-species” over their treatment of animals and attitude toward animal welfare. AB

The former Smiths front man Morrissey has provoked a storm of protest following comments in which the singer allegedly compared the Norwegian massacre in which 76 people died to the slaughter of animals for fast-food restaurant chains.

The 52-year-old vegetarian and animal rights activist allegedly made the remarks during a concert on Sunday in the Polish capital, Warsaw, where he is in the middle of a summer tour.

Local Musician Steve Taylor Performing at The Independent on Saturday, July 30th

by Accidental Bear

Steve Taylor has played and recorded with a number of bands in his time – Rogue Wave, Vetiver, Avi Buffalo, The Botticellis and more – but he’s somehow also managed to find time for his own music. Mixing psych, folk and soul into a classic-sounding pop melange, Taylor and his band are performing at The Independent on Saturday, July 30th (9pm, $10), with A B and the Sea and Benyaro.

In the above video, from the third annual Mother Hips Family Hipnic in Big Sur in May, Taylor performs a soft-pop gem joined by Andy Cabic (Vetiver), Eric Johnson (Fruit Bats) and Farmer Dave Scher.
