PSA: How a Bear Loves a Cockatoo Named Babalu

by Accidental Bear

IMPORTANT: Please read how you can help save parrots. The movie “Rio” will have consequences. If we work hard we can turn these into positive consequences. Please check out this article CLICK HERE. The movie will inspire many to purchase these fragile spirited creatures and then abandon them once they discover that they are loud, have powerful beaks, and often destroy their feathers or act aggressively. Caution: “Rio” shows parrots taking poison: Cocoa, chocolate chip cookies, and food from human mouths. “Rio” does have value, too. It shows that human-raised birds rarely can survive in the wild. On the humorous side, note that the parrots in the movie have only 3 toes, not four.We must all act to turn this potential disaster into a venue to educate the public on the true nature of parrots. For more on their true nature, see this information in pdf format.

Rag & Bone Men’s Looks for Spring/Summer 2012

by Accidental Bear

What happens when you mix your pajamas with a suit and put them on hippies? There is so more talk about women’s skirts and dress length but I think more dedication needs to be on men’s pants length. I am not a fan of these capri- ish length pants below.

Tasting the rainbow: Ants Whose Multi-coloured Abdomens Show Exactly What They’ve Been Eating

by Accidental Bear

Although your belly may show case  half eaten Jelly Bellies, chicken strips and pepperoni pizza these ants are attracted to color, sugar drops. The ants seemed to prefer lighter colours such as greens and yellow to darker blues. Read on what www.dailymail.co.uk has found out about these crunchy critters.

A good palette: Some of the ants even wandered from one colour to another, creating new combinations in their stomachs

The saying ‘you are what you eat’ is true for these insects as stunning pictures show their abdomens changing colour as they sip on sugar drops. Father of three Mohamed Babu set up the photographs after his wife, Shameem, showed him some ants had turned white after drinking spilt milk. He gave the creatures the brightly coloured sugar drops and watched as their transparent stomachs matched the food they were eating. A good palette: Some of the ants even wandered from one colour to another, creating new combinations in their stomachs.

Dolores ParkDolores Park Renovation Plans: SF CA (PHOTOS)Before long, it sounds like Dolores Park is going to be looking like Danville. Kevin Montgomery over at Uptown Almanac recently paid a visit to the Dolores Park Steering Committeeto get an update on the Dolores Park Renovation project and caught a glimpse of the plans. The renovation project may as well be called Total Park Overhaul. According to Montgomery, the planned changes are extensive enough to completely change the function — and spirit — of Dolores Park.

Regulate Marijuana Like Wine Act:  Ballot Initiative Would Tax Pot Like Wine This article comes toRegulate Marijuana Like Wine Act us courtesy of California WatchBy Joshua Emerson Smith Supporters are gathering signatures for an initiative that would decriminalize marijuana in California for those older than 21. The measure, dubbed the Regulate Marijuana Like Wine Act, would tax and regulate the cultivation, production and sale of cannabis using grape and wine industry standards. “We’re taking something that’s unregulated and we’re replacing it with a known successful program implemented by the California alcohol beverage control board,” said co-author Steve Kubby, who also helped draft and promote Proposition 215, California’s first medical cannabis law. “We know it works great with wine. It’s already in place.”

‘The Book Of Liz’ At Gough Street Playhouse: David And Amy Sedaris Play Draws Crowds (PHOTOS) Lucky for us, one such spectacle has come to San Francisco. “The Book of Liz,” penned by the Sedaris pair and currently showing at the Gough Street Playhouse, has been so popular that organizers have had to extend its run twice. The play chronicles the plight of Sister Elizabeth Dunderstock, known through town for her legendary and delicious cheeseballs. A member of the Squeamish religious order, Dunderstick runs away from her home within the isolated community of Cluster Haven to try her luck in the real world. Her adventures lead her to an array of distinctly Sedaris-esque characters, from a Ukrainian immigrant dressed as a giant peanut to the alcoholic staff of a local diner, as she struggles to figure out where she belongs.

VIDEO: PROTESTERS PICKET GOV. RICK PERRY’S PRAYER RALLY IN HOUSTON

by Accidental Bear

  via thinkProgress

Yesterday at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Gov. Rick Perry hosted “The Response,” a prayer rally with evangelical pastors like John Hagee, Jim Garlow, and David Barton. Like Perry, many of the leaders of the rally have espoused a hate ideology, demonizing the LGBT community, programs for the poor, and Muslim Americans. Outside the event, a large contingent of protesters made their voices heard. Individuals from the group GetEqual, along with protesters from groups supporting the separation of church and state waved signs outside the stadium. ThinkProgress also spoke with Jeff, a local teacher demonstrating against Perry’s abismal record on K-12 education. Watch it:

Lucille Ball Found Gay Rights “Perfectly All Right”

by Accidental Bear

Of Course she was on our side.

Lucille BallX390

There have been a multitude of tributes this week remembering comedy icon Lucille Ball who was born 100 years ago today, but a vintage interview with People magazine reveals the late entertainer was in favor of gay rights.

In a candid interview from 1980, Ball was asked her thoughts on a number of subjects, including gay rights. “It’s perfectly all right with me,” she replied. “Some of the most gifted people I’ve ever met or read about are homosexual. How can you knock it?”

As an entertainer, Ball obviously had many gay coworkers and friends. In 2001, one of her gay friends, Lee Tannen, wrote a book about his relationship with her. In it he recalls a mutual friend telling Ball how gay men adored her and how her curiosity was piqued when she heard about a gay bar in West Hollywood that played marathons of I Love Lucy episodes.
