Art for AIDS celebrates 15th Anniversary Supporting UCSF AIDS Health Project with “Phantom” Star and Artist, Franc D’Ambrosio on September 23, 2011. San Francisco, CA—The UCSF AIDS Health Project announced the 15th annual Art for AIDS auction will take place on Friday, September 23, 2011, 6:00–9:00 PM. More than 700 supporters are expected to converge at The Galleria in the San Francisco Design Center to celebrate Art for AIDS 2011, benefiting the UCSF AIDS Health Project. This year, “Phantom of the Opera” star, and donating artist Franc D’Ambrosio will open the event with a special performance.

Unifying emerging and established artists, galleries and collectors, Art for AIDS is San Francisco’s premier art auction, bringing the Bay Area art community together to support Bay Area residents living with HIV/AIDS.

Art for AIDS originated 15 years ago when several local artists got together in a Noe Valley kitchen and decided to sell their art to help friends living with HIV/AIDS. Over the years, Art for AIDS has grown, attracting renowned artists such as Ryan Reynolds, Annie Leibowitz, Jock Sturges, Pamela Derhnam, Rex Ray and Ross Bleckner, along with works from prominent Bay Area galleries and collectors.

More than 160 gallery quality works of art, including paintings, photography, mixed media, sculpture and video art, will be presented in the silent and live auctions, while guests enjoy gourmet food from fine Bay Area restaurants, wine and cocktails from Ketel One. A distinguished panel of Bay Area art critics, gallery owners, artists and collectors juries all the art. (See www.artforaids.org for a complete juror list.)

The exciting Live Auction will feature works by Jock Sturges, Robin Denevan, Ruth Bernhard, Rex Ray, Paul Gibson, Michal Venera, Sandow Birk, Jenny Robinson, Kenny Mencher, Nancy Otto, Deborah Oropallo, and others. The certificate auction features coveted offerings like, luxury getaways, celebrated restaurants, Napa winery tours, and spa treatments.

Tickets are $80 online until September 1 and $100 at the door. A VIP Lounge featuring bistro- seating offers passed hors d’œuvres, wine, and special cocktails; preferred registration and checkout; attended parking; and reserved auction seating. Art for AIDS benefits UCSF’s AIDS Health Project (AHP), serving the community for more than 27 years with free HIV testing, education, counseling, and mental health services.
