Film: QUEENS & COWBOYS: A Straight Year on the Gay Rodeo Has Made It’s Financial Production Goal!

by Accidental Bear

“An honest to God rodeo with just a little more panache.”

“QUEENS & COWBOYS: A Straight Year on the Gay Rodeo” will chronicle the 2011 season of the International Gay Rodeo Association through the lens of a straight, city-raised filmmaker. Roping and riding in 15 rodeos across north America this year alone, the IGRA’s courageous cowboys and cowgirls brave challenges both in and out of the arena on their quest to qualify for the World Finals in October. And along the way, they’ll bust every stereotype in the book.

But it’s more than just cowboys and rodeos. The film will expose the world to the unsung LGBT community of both the old and new west.  Examining where our country currently stands on the issue of gay rights, this uniquely American subject will explore how far we’ve come, and what challenges we still have ahead.

Please remember that Kickstarter is all or nothing – if we don’t reach our goal by August 31st at 9PM/pst, we don’t get any funds! So any help is appreciated – whether that’s $1, sending this Kickstarter link to one person or just pressing “Like” on Facebook. Regardless, thank you for taking the time to support this project!

UPDATE: Goal has been met. Yeee-haaw!

  1. Rodeo is very cruel to animals. As LGBT people who have long been oppressed and abused by those who have power over us, we should not intentionally engage in cruelty to those who are, in turn, weaker than us, just for entertainment and money.

We are creative enough to figure out how to fund-raise and have fun without harming others. We could still have Western-themed events, just without the animals.

  2. Wonderful information (Andrew). I whole heartedly agree but still choose to promote this film. Does this make me a bad person?

  3. I’m so glad you agree, and that this blog entry gives me an opportunity to share this information and help the animals. And yes, you’re a very, very bad boy.

  4. Ethical debates aside. I used to be a member of IGRA back home in Nebraska. Thus this entry transported me back to a time and to friends and a commnity of good ole’ boys and gals who loved and played hard together. I miss it. I miss them. I’m about to cry. Thanks for the reminder Mike.

  5. I agree with Andrew. rodeo’s are cruel. Hurting animals should not be considered entertainment. i don’t understand why anyone would want to harm an animal. It’s completely unnecessary. Have a western themed event without the animals!
