Full Frontal Kick Start to Weekend with Joe Manganniello in “MAGIC MIKE”

by Accidental Bear

by Mike Enders

Eyes are already glued to the tele for HBO’s hit show “True Blood, to get a chance of getting a view of Joe Manganniello’s skin.  Being nude in front of a crowd is nothing new to him. Funny, me either. He is classically trained actor and was given and an adonis body by his mom and dad’s love juice mixture.

“When I was in college, I did an Off-Broadway show where I was full-frontal on stage, so I guess all of these crazy parts have been coming my way for a long time,” Manganiello tells The Huffington Post. Rumor has is it that in his next role he will be playing a male stripper named Big Dick Richie in Steven Soderbergh’s new film, “Magic Mike” inspired by Channing Tatum. Yeah, Big Dick Richie is his name. Only time will tell if he release that monster or not. “Magic Mike” is due to start shooting in September. (via www.gay.net)

NY Law lets Sikh Staffers Wear Turban & Grow Beard

by Accidental Bear
The only problem I see with this, is the men’s bathroom will be crowded with conversation of beard conditioning tips and how to wax the perfect mustache. You may also get a storm of beard fetishist following these bearded, turban wearing Sikhs around the office. Mike Enders
New York to ensure religious freedom for Sikh employees
NEW YORK: Sikhs in the US will be allowed to wear turbans and grow beards in federal agencies like the police department and transit authority after New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Wednesday signed into law a bill that will ensure freedom for employees to practice religious beliefs at workplace.  The ‘Workplace Religious Freedom’ bill was initiated by civil rights group Sikh Coalition and sponsored by Queens democrat council member Mark Weprin.  In signing the law, Bloomberg said employers must make a “reasonable accommodation” for an employee’s religious practices unless following such practices creates an “undue hardship” .  MORE

UCSF Prostate Cancer Survivor Grows a Beard for a Good Cause

by Accidental Bear

Anything for a good cause with a beard!

(via www.ucsf.edu)

For the first time in his life, 50-year-old Art Wagner is growing a beard. He wants people to ask why.

Art Wagner

He will tell them that he is a survivor of prostate cancer, the second-leading cause of cancer death in men. He will tell them that he has started Septembeard, a charitable organization dedicated to raising money for research on prevention, better treatments and a cure.

Wagner is hoping men will grow facial hair during September, National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and that people will sponsor the hair growth by donating to his brand-new nonprofit, which officially opens today (Sept. 1.) The money goes directly to one of six leading research institutions on prostate cancer: UCSF, Johns Hopkins, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, the Mayo Clinic, MD Anderson and Northwestern University.

All Eyes on Artist Jonathan Eric Gann

by Accidental Bear

At first glance of artist Jonathan Eric Gann from  Birmingham, Alabama, you can tell that there is depth behind those eyes, substance. Being the beard freak that I am, for a moment,  I got lost in his delicious beard then brought back to to life by his poignant conversation and the description of his art work. Jonathan’s work has a complexity to it and each piece can be read like story. I respect the fact that the story is not always obvious. It makes me come back for look after look. Mr. Gann’s art work is worth a million double-takes (that’s a lot). Mike Enders

About:

The mind is a tricky landscape. It is pregnant with crags and fissures that make the full understanding and acceptance of one’s personal identity, observed through a social lens, more of a problematic courtship and less a healthy exercise in self discovery. Pouring ideas into a creative format is a way to deal specifically with issues of identity, sexuality, stereotypes, and the darker concerns of a mind constantly in motion. Floating between a two-dimensional and three-dimensional platform, and across a myriad of mediums, themes of communalism and isolation, solipsism and escapism, and the  questioning of religious motivations remain prevalent and repeat through an ever expanding personal lexicon of imagery and ideals

Art is a catharsis, a means to deal with and let go of daily preoccupations of self-doubt and identity.

Let me Introduce The Water Tower Bucket Boys

by Accidental Bear

water tower bucket boys by jeremyokai® on Flickr

Step outside of your musical comfort zone and get down and dirty to some blue grass with the Water Tower Bucket Boys. No, you don’t need to be a folk/ hippy to enjoy these sounds, just a craving for good soul moving music. Readers, meet Water Tower Bucket Boys, Water Tower Bucket Boys, meet our readers (knuckle punch). Mike Enders

After 5 years on the road, 4 albums under their belt and multiple international tours, the Water Tower Bucket Boys have been brewing up a storm in the folk music world.  The boys have collaborated live with members of bands like Frank Turner, Kitty Daisy and Lewis, the Red Stick Ramblers, and the Foghorn Stringband and shared the stage with acts like Old Crow Medicine Show, Mumford and Sons, Wilco, Pokey LaFarge and the South City Three, and Woody Pines.  They have toured extensively in both the USA and abroad, and performed live on the BBC, NPR, and RTE.  Their all original sound is infectious and has spread far and wide to audiences of all ages and walks of life.  Based in Portland, Oregon these young gents got their start busking on street corners playing traditional old time and bluegrass, eventually honing their sound as a solid dance band playing square dances and bluegrass festivals up and down the west coast. www.watertowerbucketboys.com

Interview: Walter Van Beirendonck Invites Everyone to Step into his Head at his Retrospect Exhibition 9/13

by Accidental Bear

Photo : Jean-Baptiste Mondino

We got a hold of Walter Van Beirendonck right at a monumental time in his life. Fans and fashionistas have bowed down to Walter’s genius, corky and colorful collections for decades. On September 13, 2011 the Antwerp Fashion Museum will be displaying a large retrospect exhibition of Walter’s work from 1980 – 2012 called DREAM THE WORLD AWAKE. The tickets for the retrospective  better be honored for  a week, because that is how long it will take to honor, respect and swallow the fine details of the clothing and the brilliant visual scrap-book of Walter’s life. Walter confesses that it was emotional while pulling pieces from his archives and seeing his life’s work all in one big space. That must have been massive treasure chest of joy and memories.

Walter, whom I consider friend and ‘bear’ role model played well with all of our questions but stayed a gentlemen when describing what types of kink tickles his fancy. Walter Van Beirendonck is the ultimate Accidental Bear and has a glorious beard and dynamic spirit that deserves its own love song.

by Mike Enders

Q & A with fashion bear Walter Van Beirendonck:

Accidental Bear: How was your summer? With the fashion world aside for a second, where could I find you on a fun day off?

Walter Van Beirendonck? In Antwerp, Belgium. Summer was really busy, working mainly on preparing my retrospective which will open soon, 13th of September,  in the fashion museum, MOMU-DREAM THE WORLD AWAKE.

Fun days are days when I can visit other cities, go to the museum and galleries, browse around in bookshops, eat ice-cream with friends!

A B:  Sherbet or ice cream?

Walter: ICE-CREAM!!! With strawberries

WALTER VAN BEIRENDONCK / SS2012 - GQ.COM

A B: Your clothing stirs up all sorts of reactions from people, usually joy from the amazing playfulness of colors. How would you react to any negative comments to your design? Have you actually received any negative feedback?
