UCSF Prostate Cancer Survivor Grows a Beard for a Good Cause

by Accidental Bear

Anything for a good cause with a beard!

(via www.ucsf.edu)

For the first time in his life, 50-year-old Art Wagner is growing a beard. He wants people to ask why.

Art Wagner

He will tell them that he is a survivor of prostate cancer, the second-leading cause of cancer death in men. He will tell them that he has started Septembeard, a charitable organization dedicated to raising money for research on prevention, better treatments and a cure.

Wagner is hoping men will grow facial hair during September, National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and that people will sponsor the hair growth by donating to his brand-new nonprofit, which officially opens today (Sept. 1.) The money goes directly to one of six leading research institutions on prostate cancer: UCSF, Johns Hopkins, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, the Mayo Clinic, MD Anderson and Northwestern University.

Accidental Bear Teams up with Celebrity Personal Trainer Johnny Pearman for a Series of Fitness Videos

by Accidental Bear

The night before my meeting with personal trainer Johnny Pearman was a restless night of sleep. Fitness for most can be that pink elephant in the room that you just do not want to acknowledge. You know you should pet it more and take better care of it, but chose to ignore it. So, meeting Johnny was like meeting this pink elephant, face to face. The plan of attack was to tackle fitness and workout myths and to get Johnny to reveal some secrets of the trade.

Johnny exudes a bright light and even before our initial meet-and-greet handshake, I was a fan. Once I got past his movie star good looks and his make-you-weak-in-the-knees Kentucky charm I found a well seasoned athlete that knows fitness and well-being inside and out. His training techniques are gentle and effective and he will deflect any negative thoughts or feeling you may be having regarding your own personal faults, with helpful tips in terms that are easy to understand and relate to.

Find Johnny on FACEBOOK and don’t forget to √ like

About the awesome Johnny Pearman

Johnny’s path into the fitness industry started at a young age. Pitching hay bails during the hot, humid summers of Kentucky and hammering nails into new homes fostered a physically driven lifestyle, and an appreciation for hard work and tangible, visible results. Johnny earned his B.A. in Exercise Science and Philosophy at Western Kentucky University before moving to San Francisco, California. In San Francisco, Johnny picked up gymnastics and studied with a Spanish Gold Medalist at Stanford. Johnny then moved to Spain, where he studied Spanish at the University of Alicante. While living in Spain he trained for his first half-marathon that he later ran in Sweden. Next, Johnny lived in Costa Rica and taught TRX classes for a Detox Resort. From the success of his instruction Johnny was invited to Indiana to teach at the Elk Ridge Resort. Coming back to San Francisco, California Johnny joined Virtual Active as the video instructor and program designer for their interactive running and hiking videos. Between hiking and trail running Johnny loves to train his clients in the city. johnnypearmanfitness.blogspot.com

URSA Skin Care For Men, Live Major

by Accidental Bear

As a pretty typical gay-homosexual I like to have good skin. Even coming from the beardy point of view, your cheeks and neck are still out there for the world to see and judge. As boy I would lather my mothers flowery, brightly colored products all over my face and practice french kissing my hand. Even at a young age, I knew the smell wasn’t to my liking, I wanted something that said, ” I  am man , hear me roar” but with nice skin. Ursa skin products for men was brought to attention just this morning and I am ready to consume the whole line. Take a look men. Did you notice the awesome label?

Ursa Major is passionate about human and environmental health. We take great care to develop clean, healthy skin care products which work incredibly well and also offer a wonderful experience. We never use parabens, sulfates, petroleum and petroleum derived chemicals, glycols (propylene glycol), ethoxylated chemicals (PEGs), ethanolamines (TEA, DEA, MEA), synthetic colors, synthetic polymers, silicones, phthalates, chemical sunscreens or formaldehyde donors. (If that stuff sounds gnarly, it is!)” www.ursamajormen.com

Men’s Skin 101

You may have noticed: men’s facial skin is different to women’s skin. It’s thicker, oilier, has more pores and sweats more. And of course men have much tougher, faster-growing hair follicles or ‘whiskers’. All this creates a unique set of challenges best met by regular use of skincare products designed specifically for men.

Raymond Johnson Denied Federal Aid For Breast Cancer Because He’s A Man

by Accidental Bear

All breasts not created equal.

Raymond Johnson

via Huffington Post

A 26-year-old South Carolina man received a surprising diagnosis of breast cancer after he visited an emergency room for throbbing chest pain last month.

But what came next surprised Raymond Johnson even more: He discovered he is ineligible for the Medicaid program that covers treatments for breast cancer because he is a man, according to news reports.

Johnson is uninsured, and in order to afford the treatments, his patient advocate suggested he look into a federal program that could help. The Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act uses Medicaid funds to cover breast and ovarian cancer treatment costs for people who can’t afford it,The Post and Courier reported. But a stipulation lies with receiving those funds: you must be a woman.

“Cancer doesn’t discriminate, so this program shouldn’t discriminate,” Johnson told The Post and Courier. MORE

SF CA Weiner News: Circumcision Ban Removed from Ballot

by Accidental Bear

Saying that the state regulates medical procedures, San Francisco Superior Court Judge Loretta Giorgi struck the controversial anti-circumcision proposition from the November ballot last week, ordering the head of the city’s Department of Elections to remove it.

The proposition, which qualified for the ballot in May, sought to criminalize anyone practicing circumcision on boys under the age of 18 within San Francisco. Violations would result in a misdemeanor with a fine of up to $1,000 or imprisonment in county jail for up to one year, or both. MORE

SF CA: Raising Awareness for Hepatitis C

by Accidental Bear

I am immune to everything since my morning routine consists of bathing in bleach, removing all body hair, gargling with Raid, slipping a full body condom  on, elbow high gloves, protected glasses and I only breathe pure oxygen from a tank I wheel behind ,e in a red wagon. Hep still scares me though. Read on… AB

District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener, left, holds up a T-shirt given to him by Nina Grossman, a member of the San Francisco Hepatitis C Task Force, during an outreach event at Harvey Milk Plaza in the Castro Thursday, July 28, which was World Hepatitis Day.
