I love all Things Taschen Touches (Books)

by Accidental Bear

It’s not to early to start making your 2011 Christmas list. Taschen has a way of making all subjects a visual orgasm. You may have seen one of the most popular books titled Big Penis Book. Perhaps looked at it from across the room with longing, coming hither fuck me eyes? This newest book on photographers is a must see. The thing about Taschen‘s books is that a lot of them are limited edition and then disappear. One day i will have them all (wicked evil laugh).

Butch Baked Bonanza Boys; Butch Bakery NYC

by Accidental Bear

Heaven forbid, we don’t want a sissy cupcake, right? I don’t care if my cupcake is macho, mentally retarded, transsexual or a TYRANNOSAURUS. The only thing that matters is that it’s in my mouth.I thought pies were the new cupcake anyhow?

The Macho (Cupcake) Man

A former real estate lawyer whips up pretty cupcakes—for dudes

By Ryan Bradley @ businessweek.com

David Arrick became Mr. Cupcake not out of a desire to bake or an affinity for frosting but “out of anger and frustration.” It was fall 2008, and he’d lost his job as a Manhattan real estate attorney, his home in New Jersey, and a huge portion of his savings. He’d also just turned 40. At this low moment Arrick walked by a certain venerable bakery—a familiar stop on Sex and the City bus tours—in his West Village neighborhood and saw a line of women around the block. “Freaking cupcakes,” he thought. “What if I made them manly?”

Lee 101 Logger Selvage Denim

by Accidental Bear

It is really close to impossible to keep up with what to do or not do when it comes to denim. For example, I thought you were not suppose to be caught dead in Lee jeans. Am I wrong? Apparently so. I am a true Levis man and basically have 2 denim rules to live by, NEVER acid wash or pleats.

Like all things in menswear, washed denim never disappeared, it just stepped out of the limelight for a bit. We remember attempting to bring them back under the spotlight a few times but we usually get comments like ‘looks terrible’, ‘dad jeans’, ‘Obama wears these’. But this is shaping up to be the year that folks come round to the idea of washed denim. All we’ve gotta say is ‘what took you so long?’ (Crooked Tongues)

Levi’s Fall 2011 Collection

by Accidental Bear

Damn it Levi, I told you I’m broke. It’s like you are not even listening. Did you purposefully make your Fall 2011 collection smack me in the face amazing? Shall I just direct deposit my paycheck into your account? On an up note, this fall, I’m going to be strutting the sidewalks looking good.

Levi’s Fall 2011 Collection

curated mag - Levi's Fall 2011 Collection

This week Levi’s unveiled the Fall 2011 men’s collection which builds off both past collaborations and new innovations. A highlight, for us, is the introduction of the Commuter Cycling Series, a set of garments designed purposefully to meet the needs of the commuting cyclist. The denim in the Commuter Cycling Series is a slim cut 511 with utility waistband (set up perfectly for a u-lock) and the pant also employs a higher waste and 3m reflectivity.

The Fall 2011 collection also introduces new pieces from the ongoing Levi’s Workwear by Filson range and pushes the possiblities of Levi’s new program, Water<Less.

Bel & Bel Vespa Seats

We’ll assume that these Vespa Seats from Bel & Bel are made from dead Vespas rather than old frames that could be restored (I just feel better thinking that). These limited edition seats use old frames to form something new from the classic Piaggio forms. The ergonomic Vespa chairs feature a hydraulic height adjuster. I would take one for the office.

Left Field Produces Some of the Strongest Chinos on the Market

by Accidental Bear

I am always looking for a cure for my white-boy-butt-syndrome. Could these Chinos be the answer? Will baby one day have back?

Left Field Chino Collection for Spring 2011

Left Field Chino Collection for Spring 2011

Left Field produces some of the strongest chinos on the market. What makes them tops is their twills. For Spring 2011, they deliver four styles: “Japanese khaki twill (made from the same heavy-duty cotton twill used to make Japanese military garments), one organic olive twill, and two enzyme-washed organic cotton canvas models. Details are the same four all four pairs, and they include a Corozo button fly, front coin pocket, on-seam side pockets, buttoned back pockets.” We love the chambray pocket bags – made from Japanese fabrics of course. Made in Los Angeles.

Hunters influence Mens Fashion

by Accidental Bear

A secret gap in the rear, makes me think of other things besides fashion. I am liking the use of hunting as an inspiration and that bright neon orange was left out is refreshing. What would I do with the vent flap in the back. Maybe I’ll get a gang of Chihuahuas and them roam back there.

Highland ‘Shotgunner’ Jacket

Selectism - highland-shotgunner-jacket-01

Using hunting as inspiration for jackets is nothing new, but we still like it when it’s done nicely. Other things we like: curved pockets (straight ones are a little hard for things like putting your hands in them) and the back vent, which makes it a solid choice for a spring jacket. Also, who’s the guy in the picture? He should start a blog or something. (Opening Ceremony)

Smart looks. Won’t you be my neighbor

by Accidental Bear

I see myself cruising into old age ( next month) and choosing “smarter” clothing. For me dressing up is tucking my t-shirt into my jeans. Maybe I will adopt some looks from Soulland Schmidt and start my new grown up life. I also think I could find similar looks at Thrift Town in the Mission. I would just have to get use to the smell of moth balls following me around.

We’re packed to the gills with timeless classics today, this time it’s something from Soulland. As we’ve often stated, we like the staples and all, but anyone saying that you should throw out anything in a pattern that isn’t stripes or checks should throw themselves from a bridge. No hyperbole. Light up a Room with Style

by Accidental Bear

I am neurotic about lighting. I enter every room with a suggestion of dimming, switching or flat out turning off of lights. I think I have found my lighting utopia. Design and light quality made to perfection.

Lighting from Monocomplex

monocomplex lighting 01 curatedmag Lighting from Monocomplex

Monocomplex, a design firm located in Seoul, Korea, has unveiled two new lighting fixtures. The first (seen above) is called “Retro TV Lighting.” The firm says, “According to digital time’s advent, analog things are being protruded to the back seat. Retro TV lighting intends to deliver warmness in memories to users by moving the warm nature of wood materials along with analog emotion to the illumination.” “Retro TV Lighting” was designed by Park Hyunwoo.

After the jump, check out “Spool Lighting” designed by Hwang Eunsang. This piece hinges on associations with the spool and mothering – specifically the connection between the spool and sewing. It is a contemporary nostalgic reinterpretation of the object, proposing a natural warmth.

That warming glow is the connector between the two designs.

For the love of Tony Ward; Uniform dressing is the look for 2011

by Accidental Bear

Tony, I got one thing to say,

“…Gonna dress you up in my love
All over, all over
Gonna dress you up in my love
All over your body

Feel the silky touch of my caresses
They will keep you looking so brand new
Let me cover you with velvet kisses
I’ll create a look that’s made for you…. “

HOLY MACARONI! Yes from head to toe.

PRPS Spring/Summer 2011

PRPS – one of the champions in the denim market – continue to refine their outerwear. Season to season, they continue to gain strength and position themselves father away from the singular denim game. Chambray and worked out tops, including a waist length leather jacket, offer contemporary and casual looks that are pretty accessible to most.
