The Relativity points us in the direction of this excellent Autumn/Winter 2011 collection from Japanese designe, Taishi Nobukuni. The former St Martins student spent time working under British tailor Charlie Allen and has used these formal skills to create a traditional but highly individual collection. Influences seem to be plucked from all over, Dandy, country gent, even a little 70s pimp for good measure and while some pieces push the boundaries there are enough wearable looks to deem this an accessible collection. Carhartt’s signature heritage pieces  our somewhat softened by infusing them with high quality fabrics and a more modern look and feel. These pieces are as durable as you’d expect any Carhartt product to be but you won’t necessarily be pegged as a blue collard worker, not that that’s a bad thing. s.

Butterflysoulfire’s Spring 2012 Collection Works with an ‘Urban Ape’

Giving up your tickets to the theater might be a smart choice as fashion lookbooks and photo shoots of collections these days have given us front row seats and a mind full of thoughts to play with. Designer Maria Thomas and Thoas Linder hit us with the idea of an “urban ape” for their current collection. If you can take your attention away from the ape masks, you will see garments with a stretchy sports vibe and loose casual draping. These clothes make me think modern dance company. This is a new category for me, neckwear. The term makes me think of being a child with a cold, and having Vicks Vapor Rub spread all over my chest and my mother tying a bandana (neckwear) around my neck and tucking me away. Anyone else?

FYI – I put these ten tips in orders of practicality and cost.  I realize some of these are beyond some men’s resources or not options worth considering–but I lay them out there so that you can make that decision yourself.

1. Monochromatic Color Themes

Along the same lines as minimizing visual clutter, removing contrasting color from your appearance helps streamline the way you look. Keeping all your clothes within a fairly consistent color theme, especially a dark one, will create an illusion of height. Different color shades are fine–just try to keep it loosely monochrome.

When you do wear different colors or different shades of the same color, try to weight the darker colors toward the bottom half of your body. That way people’s attention starts down near your feet and travels upward. Dark trousers with a lighter shirt create a lengthening effect; a darker shirt with lighter pants shortens your appearance.

They could not help but create the matching pair of socks. The BE@RBRICK toy is sold in limited numbers. They are highly collectible, and predominantly collected by adults. As a result of their limited production, and the participation of artists, BE@RBRICKs are generally considered designer toys.

There is Hipster & Then There is Awkward Clothing: Spring/Summer 2012 in-house collection from the Opening Ceremony

I will do Opening Ceremony  the favor of holding off judgment until I see the whole collection, as they say they are holding back from showing the full collection yet. The missing pieces will have to fight an uphill battle in my mind to help out what I see so far. Awkward, very awkward.

Tenue de Nîmes Indigo-dyed Chuck Taylor All Star

Tenue de Nîmes is launching a collection of special, hand-dyed, natural indigo, customized Converse Chuck Taylor All Star shoes. They’re bangers indeed. Released during Amsterdam Fashion Week, the custom indigo colored Chuck Taylor All Star shoes will be issue in a run of 50 pairs.

“Tenue de Nîmes asked the legendary denim experts, the Manabe family from Okoyama in Japan, owners of the Momotaro brand and Rampuya dyeing factory” to produce the run. The results are outstanding. They deliver and drop on July 15. (selectism)
