God Father Nathan Clark, Creator of the Clarks Desert Boot, Passes Away

A slight delay on this one. Mr Clark passed back in June.

“Sad news in the world of men’s footwear. Nathan Clark, creator of the iconic Clarks Desert Boot has died at the age of 94. We pull from the Telegraph UK obit: “Clark, a great-grandson of James Clark, who co-founded the Quaker footwear company in 1825, was serving in Burma during the Second World War when he noticed some servicemen wearing rough suede boots with crepe soles, of a type made by local tradesmen in Cairo’s Old Bazaar for British officers of the Eighth Army…After the war Clark returned to the family firm and, after further work on the design, took some pairs of Desert Boots to the 1949 Chicago Shoe Fair, where they were an instant hit.” (bltn)”

To be honest we have not been paying too much attention to Closed these last couple of years. While we have always appreciated their denim and especially cotton pants program, the brand somehow slipped our mind. A while ago we ended up walking into their booth at a fashion tradeshow and checked out their Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection.

I have flirted with these shoes for the last year on men on the metro here in SF. I have flashbacks of junior high because every school year we would get a new pair of Dock Siders to ONLY to be worn to school and “dress up” days; Picture day for example. I again find myself attracted to them. I am surprised though to see them coming out again for summer. The way fashion moves, won’t they be “out” by then? ~AB

The collaborative effort between NY’s modern day shoe wizard and G.H. Bass looks to bring well-priced models that look and feel great. Heritage always plays a huge role and factor in any business setup. Red Wing produced a series of videos showcasing what goes into crafting a pair of their classic boots. The first video in this series features the company’s shoemakers Red Wing’s famed Plant II in Red Wing, MN. Since 1905, these craftsmen have been piecing together Red Wing boots and shoes using the same techniques, and four generations of shoemakers have been responsible for upholding Red Wing’s standards of quality, durability, and style.

Converse for ACE Hotel; On the Money!

Testing my super hero powers, I squeezed my eyes super shut, chanted some jibber jabber and tried to transpot these Converse into my closet so I could sport these lookers today. Sad to say, all I found was soiled laundry  and muddy hiking boots. Until I fine tune my powers, I guess I’ll do old fashion mail order.

ACE works another pair of Cons for their hotel shops. Now in blue/black, the All Star Bosey is back… “Inspired by shoes from the Converse archive, they feel like a sneaker, but with rugged boot detailing and design cues taken from vintage wading boots and shoes Converse created for US Military basic training in the 1940s.” Rock star status on this one.

Japanese Sneaker Magazine Shoes Master

The Japanese are insane, insanely creative. Whenever my eyes gaze at something that seems unimaginable or impossible, when I take a closer peek, the items reveal to be Japanese Made. It makes me wants to take a god awful lace white wedding dress , shop it off into a mini dress, bound myself with ropes and paint my face with clown music, and where my tallest platform boots with hello kitty shoes laces in honor of the super minds of Japan.

Shoes Master Volume 15

Volume 15 features the adidas Originals by Originals Jeremy Scott Teddy Bear sneakers on the cover and will for sure preview lots of other interesting styles to come out this season. Vegas | Tretorn Obo Shoe for Autumn 2011

Tretorn’s Obo will satisfy all wet weather needs – the mid height boot is handsomely made up with both water proof leather and a Gore-Tex lining. We’re hoping next Winter isn’t as rough, but we’re also excited for the potential of appropriate footwear that isn’t based on a rubber toe.
