Excellent news – Congresswoman Giffords is back and voting tonight!”

by Accidental Bear

This is the most remarkable news I have heard all year. I want to start a petition for Gabrielle Giffords to be able to pound nails into assailants (I don’t like to say his name, because he gets’ off on that) skull for 12 hours a day and the other half of day they keep him alive to feel the pain. Will you sign my petition? Teary eyed reporting brought to you by Accidental Bear.

ABC News’ Jonathan Karl (@JonKarl) and Sunlen Miller (@SunlenMiller) report:   Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., returned to Congress tonight for the first time since being shot in the head in January, casting a vote in support of the compromise debt ceiling bill.

“Gabrielle has returned to Washington to support a bipartisan bill to prevent economic crisis,” read a message posted to Giffords’ Twitter account while members began casting their votes on the House floor.

Minutes later, Giffords slowly entered the chamber to loud, sustained applause and a standing ovation by her colleagues, who huddled around her to give hugs, kisses and handshakes.

Vice President Joe Biden, with a big smile on his face, walked to the House floor and said, “I came to see Gabby, that’s why I’m here.” MORE

Swedish Preschool Bans GenderA public preschool in a liberal part of Stockholm has created an environment where gendered pronouns are not used, the children are referred to as “friends” instead of “boys and girls,” and toys are deliberately gender neutral. Sounds crazy! It also sounds like a conservative’s worst fucking nightmare. From the New York Daily News:

Michelle Obama Mum on Marriage If Michelle Obama supports gay marriage, she’s not saying so publicly. The first lady’s communications director, Kristina Schake, told Politico today that “Mrs. Obama has never made any public statements about same-sex marriage.”

Moment of Wow: U2 Beams Down Space Message for Concert | Video

by Accidental Bear

PHOENIX (AP) – Space shuttle Endeavour commander Mark Kelly delivered an out-of-this-world message to a U2 concert after Bono dedicated the song “Beautiful Day” to Kelly’s wife, Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Bono told the crowd at Seattle’s Qwest Field on Saturday night, “Imagine a man looking down on us from 200 miles up. Looking down at our beautiful crowded planet. What would he say to us? What is on your mind Commander Kelly?”

Kelly then appeared on a video board from the International Space Station and quoted lyrics from David Bowie’s `Space Oddity.’ “Tell my wife I love her very much,” he told the surprised crowd. source www.katu.com

GAY INTERN HELPED SAVE THE LIFE OF GABRIELLE GIFFORDS

by Accidental Bear

Hernandez had only been interning with Giffords for 5 days before this tragic event. I think he will have an additional story to tell in his cover letter resume from now on.

Arizona Republic reports:
When the shots began that morning, he saw many people lying on the ground, including a young girl. Some were bleeding. Hernandez said he moved from person to person checking pulses. “First the neck, then the wrist,” he said. One man was already dead. Then he saw Giffords. She had fallen and was lying contorted on the sidewalk. She was bleeding. Using his hand, Hernandez applied pressure to the entry wound on her forehead. He pulled her into his lap, holding her upright against him so she wouldn’t choke on her own blood. Giffords was conscious, but quiet.
Ron Barber, Giffords’ district director, was next to her. Hernandez told a bystander how to apply pressure to one of Barber’s wounds. Barber told Hernandez, “Make sure you stay with Gabby. Make sure you help Gabby.”
Hernandez used his hand to apply pressure until someone from inside Safeway brought him clean smocks from the meat department. He used them to apply pressure on the entrance wound, unaware there was an exit wound. He never let go of her. He stayed with Giffords until paramedics arrived. They strapped her to a board and loaded her into an ambulance. Hernandez climbed in with her. On the ride to the hospital, he held her hand. She squeezed his back. When they arrived at the hospital, Hernandez was soaked in blood. His family brought him clean clothes because the FBI took his for evidence.
