Levi’s Made & Crafted was founded on a simple premise – “Modern items based on the principles of good design.” In that mission, the Levi’s DNA forms a backbone for forward thinking approaches to classic garments and accessories, all of which privileges the right fabrics and the correct manufacturing. For Autumn 2011 the line, now in its second full season, has expanded to include knits, shirting, and a special capsule collection of “Made in the USA” denim. The looks are contemporary and fresh, but with a decidedly familiar feel; the balance of new and old in the pieces struck admirably. We caught up with the Amsterdam based Made & Crafted design team to chat about the Autumn 2011 collection and to see what the future holds for the line. Tenue de Nîmes Indigo-dyed Chuck Taylor All Star

Tenue de Nîmes is launching a collection of special, hand-dyed, natural indigo, customized Converse Chuck Taylor All Star shoes. They’re bangers indeed. Released during Amsterdam Fashion Week, the custom indigo colored Chuck Taylor All Star shoes will be issue in a run of 50 pairs.

“Tenue de Nîmes asked the legendary denim experts, the Manabe family from Okoyama in Japan, owners of the Momotaro brand and Rampuya dyeing factory” to produce the run. The results are outstanding. They deliver and drop on July 15. (selectism)

Canada’s Naked & Famous denim house goes head to head with AMS’s own Tenue de Nimes for a special 24 pair run of 13oz green rope-dyed repro denim. They have a vintage army feel to them. “Specific attention has been paid to matching the shade of green perfectly. The mid-green color proved a particular challenge since the dye is very unstable, but the hard work has paid off, giving us a beautiful and truly inspired color.” Well done fellas. Damn it Levi, I told you I’m broke. It’s like you are not even listening. Did you purposefully make your Fall 2011 collection smack me in the face amazing? Shall I just direct deposit my paycheck into your account? On an up note, this fall, I’m going to be strutting the sidewalks looking good.

This week Levi’s unveiled the Fall 2011 men’s collection which builds off both past collaborations and new innovations. A highlight, for us, is the introduction of the Commuter Cycling Series, a set of garments designed purposefully to meet the needs of the commuting cyclist. The denim in the Commuter Cycling Series is a slim cut 511 with utility waistband (set up perfectly for a u-lock) and the pant also employs a higher waste and 3m reflectivity.

The Fall 2011 collection also introduces new pieces from the ongoing Levi’s Workwear by Filson range and pushes the possiblities of Levi’s new program, Water<Less.
