Sex For Tuition: Gay Male College Students Using ‘Sugar Daddies’ To Pay Off Loan Debt

College Students Sugar Daddy Sugar Baby GayNEW YORK — Three years ago, during his junior year at New York University, Kirk met with a financial aid officer to plead a familiar case: his inability to manage the yearly payments on his $50,000 tuition bill. Once again, the school official reminded Kirk that in order to register for next semester’s courses, he needed to come up with another $8,000 — or risk expulsion. Kirk nearly divulged his secret to the loan officer, finally letting her know exactly what he had resorted to in a desperate attempt to finance his education. Midway through college, Kirk had begun turning tricks in order to pay for school.

Op-ed: The Culture of Satanic Panic

The superstition that helped convict three innocent men in West Memphis is the same concept still used against LGBT people — a phenomenon called Satanic panic. I’m not sureWEST MEMPHIS THREE X390 (W. MEMPHIS POLICE DEPT) | ADVOCATE.COM what it was that brought the name into my head. Maybe it was God. Maybe it was one of my synapses misfiring. For some reason, Rebecca Brown popped into my head not long ago. Brown wrote two books, He Came to Set the Captives Free and Prepare for War.  My mother insisted that I read both when I was in junior high school. The books told the story of Brown and her “associate,” Elaine, and their self-described journey through Satanism.

Five Things ‘Nightline’ Could Have Done Better In Its Special On Transgender Children

Last night, ABC’s Primetime Nightline ran an hour-long special on transgender identities, focusing in particular on the experiences of transgender young people. Overall, the special was positive and affirming, but it also fell into some journalistic traps and missed some important opportunities to highlight challenges the transgender community faces. Here are five critiques of last night’s special. 1. FALSE BALANCE: One of the five segments focused on an adult individual named Charles Kane, who transitioned to female and then back to male. Claiming that he regrets his transition, he had disparaging things to say about the transgender experience, including calling puberty blockers for young trans people “brainwashing.” His experiences are unfortunate, but not representative, and he has absolutely no expertise in transgender health to be critiquing other people’s transitions. His inclusion was unnecessary, irrelevant, and represented false balance .

Santorum Says Criticism Of His Views On Homosexuality Is ‘An Act Of Bigotry’

In an interview that aired on CNN last night, Piers Morgan pressed Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on his views opposing marriage equality, including his suggestion of agay “jihad” against him. Santorum tried to avoid answering whether he believes homosexuality is a sin, but confirmed that as a Catholic, he subscribes to the Catholic Church’s teachings that indeed it is a sin. Asked how he would respond if one of his sons came out, Santorum said he would be supportive of what he sees as a “very difficult and troubling time in their life,” going on to say he “knows a lot of gay people” and some of them continue to “struggle” even after coming out and “admitting” their identities.

SF CA: Lyon-Martin Health Services no taking trans patients

Lyon-Martin Health Services, the pioneering San Francisco clinic that has served women and transgender people for more than 30 years, will start accepting new patients today – eight months after it nearly closed due to financial problems. The clinic’s board of directors voted in late January to shut down the health center, but Lyon-Martin’s patients and supporters decided to put up a fight. They raised more than $500,000 within a matter of months while the clinic’s staff worked internally to stabilize operations, cut expenses and find additional revenue sources for the Market Street clinic.

Arizona Mother, Blew Marijuana Smoke In Her Baby’s Mouth To Calm Her Down, Police Say

A 21-year-old mother was arrested by Gilbert, Az., Police on Saturday after she allegedly tried to calm her infant daughter by blowing marijuana smoke in the girl’s mouth. WitnessCallaway footage allegedly shows Jessica Callaway on Friday telling her 10-month-old to, “shut the f*** up before I kick you in the mouth,” as she repeatedly hits the baby to get her to stop crying, The Arizona Republic reported. Callaway, whose Facebook page is “loaded with postings about pot and parties,” according to ABC-15, told police that she was frustrated because she was “having trouble finding an outfit to wear out that night.”

Harmful bacteria could lurk in doctors’, nurses’ uniforms, study says

Doctor's white coatThink your doctor’s white coat is as clean as a whistle? It might not be. A study finds that dangerous germs could be lurking onnurses‘ and doctors’ uniforms. Researchers from Shaare Zedek Medical Centerin Jerusalem cultured three spots on the uniforms of 75 nurses and 60 physicians working in a 550-bed hospital. Potential pathogens (also known as infectious agents, or germs) were found on 63% of the uniforms, and antibiotic resistant bacteria were found on samples from 14% of nurses’ uniforms and 6% of doctor’s uniforms. Eight of those cultures grew methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, better known as MRSA.

Marcus Bachman Gets Covered by Gay Glitter & It’s Not the First Time: “glitter baptism”

by Accidental Bear

Eat glitter you dirt bag. Being attacked by what are being called barbarians who cover Marcus Bachman is nothing less than awesome. It is most definitely not the first time he has had gay objects shoved in his mouth (says my gaydar).

flashmob of over 100 “barbarians” approached one of Marcus Bachmann’s religious counseling clinics today in protest of the harmful ex-gay therapy they offer. Staff locked the horde out, so in lieu of confronting the actual Bachmann, the barbarians performed a ritual “glitter baptism” on “Marcus Bachmann,” as they continued to chant, “you can’t pray away the gay, baby I was born this way!” A smaller group similarly protested the cliniclast month. The presidential candidate’s husband has previously compared homosexuals to“barbarians” who “need to be educated” and “disciplined.” (via thinkprogress.org)

Bearotic Turns us on to Irish Musician Stephen Tunney

by Accidental Bear

We give big fuzzy bear hugs with an intense press of our pelvis to the web site Bearotic for bringing  Stephen Tunney to our attention.  Stephen Tunney, a 20 year old Irish bear cub has been crawling around on all fours trying to find place to lay his head. Through the outlet of music he has found a safe place in the bear community. The out come of this journey was his album In Search of Home with the band name Retreat From Moscow. Love it! We are going to do our best to get this one to talk with us here at Accidental Bear.

Stephen puts it best. From the horses mouth read on “This project (Retreat From Moscow) was the beginning of something I felt comfortable with and something I had complete control over. I began recording in late 2009 just as I started college. I bought a really cheap acoustic guitar and found a typically 80s casio keyboard in Spain and put together my old drum kit and that was it, I had all the ingredients to make a record. I was very secretive about the whole thing, releasing teaser excerpts online once in a while. I would spend weeks neglecting university and working on a song until I was satisfied with it. The software I use tells you how long you’ve spent recording a song and in some instances it was as a high as 35 hours on one track. This was because I had to record everything by myself, instrument by instrument and tweak everything accordingly in the mix. Honestly it took forever and it might not sound like the most polished piece of work but I couldn’t be happier with it or it’s naturally occurring warm sound.”

New HRC Poll: Gays More Popular In Utah Than Obama

The Human Rights Campaign has released a new poll showing that Utahns have “warmer feelings toward gay and lesbian people than they do toward President Barack Obama.” Gay and lesbians scored a 51 percent approval rating, while Obama received an average 38 points, the survey found. Seventy-seven percent of residents would also support extending anti-discrimination protections in housing, employment and public accommodations to the LGBT community, and “42 percent said their feelings about LGBT people have become more accepting over the last five to 10 years.” A majority — 63 percent — still oppose same-sex marriage.

ANTI-GAY INDIANA STATE REP CAUGHT EXCHANGING MONEY FOR GAY SEX

Indiana state Rep. Phillip Hinkle (R) is in the media spotlight today under allegations he offered a young man money for sex Saturday night. Joe Jervis notes that Hinkle, who is married to a woman and has children, voted in favor of the constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage and civil unions in Indiana, which will require a second vote by the legislature to pass next year. Hinkle also prides himself on supporting a bill that required Indiana to offer “In God We Trust” license plates. Bil Browning adds that there are likely some other anti-gay Indiana legislators whose stories have not yet come to light.

Gladiators’ arrested outside Rome’s Colosseum

Some 20 “gladiators” or “centurions” have been arrested outside some of Rome’s most famous tourist sites, in an undercover sting by police aimed at breaking up a violent racket targeting tourists, according to reports. The AFP news agency said police had disguised themselves as gladiators, garbage men and members of the public to make the arrests. The detained people are alleged to have attacked and intimidated competitors, the AFP said.

San Francisco Cops Jam Cell Phones to Prevent Protest

It’s not just the London police and Middle East dictators who try to curb unrest by clamping down on communications networks. According to reports, police in San Francisco are jamming cell phones to head off protesters.

Protesters had planned to gather at a San Francisco BART station during rush hour to protest the fatal July shooting of Charles Hill by a BART police officer. But the protest never materialized. One reason, possibly, is the extreme lengths police went to make sure potential protesters couldn’t communicate. From CBS San Francisco:

As an added precaution, the agency shut off cellphone service on the station’s platform. While Alkire said the tactic was an unusual measure, he said it was “a great tool to utilize for this specific purpose” given that the agency was expecting a potentially volatile situation.
“This group seems to want to challenge BART, challenge the police department,” Alkire said.

Monday Madness, News: Anti-LGBT Literature, PRIDE FLAG OUTSMARTS GOV. BROWNBACK, Watch Ex-Gay Video

by Accidental Bear

Anti-LGBT Literature Widely Distributed At Right-Wing ALEC Conference This past weekend, hundreds of conservative lawmakers and lobbyists gathered in New Orleans for the American Legislative Exchange Council’s (ALEC) annual meeting. The four-day conference was sponsored by a who’s-who of corporations, from BP to Walmart to Altria, that pay upwards of $100,000 for the opportunity to write legislation friendly to their interests and pass it along to state lawmakers. The corporate front group is so concerned with secrecy that it instructed hotel security guards tophysically attack two ThinkProgress journalists covering the event.

LARGE PRIDE FLAG OUTSMARTS GOV. BROWNBACK’S FREE SPEECH RESTRICTIONS AT KANSAS CAPITOL  Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback (R), who appeared at The Response prayer rally this weekend, tried to limit an LGBT equality rally at the Kansas State Capitol by preventing the Kansas Equality Coalition from holding any flagpoles or even tiny flags, deeming them “dangerous weapons.” (This was despite the fact that the Knights of Columbus had not only flags but swords at an anti-choice event at the capitol in January.) The group found a way to outsmart the pole restriction by bringing in the biggest flags they could find — without poles.

Bachmann Attended Anti-Gay Sermon, Watched Ex-Gay Video  “God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,” [Pastor Jeff] Mullen said, reading from the book of Romans. Mullen’s sermon concluded with video testimonial from a man named Adam Hood, who claims to have been gay before experiencing a conversation with God. “I am so happy God has given me natural affection for a woman,” Hood said in the video, adding that his wife is nine months pregnant. “We need to have compassion for people that are bound by that sin,” Hood added. “And it is a sin. Call a spade a spade.” Below is the clip of ex-gay Adam Hood that was featured in the sermon the Bachmanns attended
