The “Cop” from the Village People Wants Some Money

by Accidental Bear

This is too good to make up. The title alone is good enough to stop reading at and flood you with enough visuals for the day of men in leather and uniform costumes. But this is serious business, the cop from Village people, I repeat, the cop from Village people is claiming rights to some of the most popular anthems ever known to mankind, “Macho Man” and “Y.M.C.A.” He must have spent all his money on crack and now trying to figure how to juice his fame for a few more sips.

Village People Cop Files Lawsuit

By Editors

Victor Willis, who as a founding member of the Village People wrote and sang chart topping hits as “Macho Man” and “Y.M.C.A.,” has filed a federal lawsuit claiming he’s owed royalties, according to New York Post.

Willis, who says he chose to dress as the cop in the ’70s camp band to “keep order,” departed the group in 1979. Last week Willis filed suit against Can’t Stop Productions, which handles the rights to the band’s songs, for $1.5 million. Stewart Levy, an attorney for Can’t Stop Productions, called Willis’s lawsuit “without merit.”
