Next month, Cyndi Lauper‘s 1986 hit “True Colors” takes on new meaning when the True Colors Residencefor homeless lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (L.G.B.T.) youth opens in Harlem on September 1.
In New York City, a very disproportionate number (up to 40 percent), of homeless youth identify as L.G.B.T. Even more disturbing are reports that these young people often face discrimination and at times physical assault in some of the very places they have to for help. A Monterey Park yogurt shop owner is facing kidnapping and attempted murder charges for abducting a female employee and keeping her inside a box in a soundproof room, prosecutors said Friday. Robert Yachen Lee alleged lured the employee to a storage room above O My Yogurt on south Atlantic Boulevard early Wednesday, knocked her unconscious and then — after removing her clothing and dressing her in an adult diaper — placed her in a box, authorities said.
