News: Transgender Murder, David Tyree, Amy Winehouse

Guy Robs Bank So He Can Get Health Care in Prison James Verone, a 59-year-old former truck driver, was having serious medical problems that he couldn’t afford to get checked out or treated. If only North Carolina had a free, state-run health-care system!, he thought. Then he realized it does: in prison. And so one morning Verone hailed a cab, headed to (the randomly-chosen) RBC bank, and handed the teller a note “demanding one dollar, and medical attention.” As it happens, one dollar is not enough money to count as a “bank robbery” (and garner the jail time that goes with it), and Verone will be charged with “larceny from a person.” Nonetheless, the Gaston Gazette writes, Verone has already “seen several nurses and has an appointment with a doctor Friday.”

Support is a Major Component in Coming-Out Process new study by the University of Rochester has highlighted the personal rewards for LGBT people in coming out as well as the link between their happiness and community support. The research found that support is one of the most important elements in the coming-out process. People who came out in hostile or judgmental environments did not enjoy the same benefits as those in supportive ones.

N.J. Man Indicted in Transgender Murder A Newark, N.J., man was indicted Monday on charges of murder and bias intimidation in the September death of a transgender woman. On the night of September 12, 2010, Victoria Carmen White, 28, was out dancing with her cousin when she met Alrashim Chambers, 24, and Marquise Foster, 26. Friends and family of White say the four returned to the cousin’s apartment, where an altercation led to White being shot multiple times.

Obama’s gay marriage conundrum Obama’s claim eight months ago that his position is evolving on gay marriage seems to have created a political conundrum: It has led gay advocates to demand, understandably, to know when his position will reach full evolution. As I noted here yesterday, the problem is that Obama has left everyone believing that he believes in full equality but that he’s not quite prepared to take the final step of saying so.

WHO urges equal access to HIV services for gay men GENEVA (AP) — The World Health Organization urged governments Tuesday to eliminate laws criminalizing sexual activity between consenting men, as part of an effort to ensure they get equal access to HIV prevention and treatment. The U.N. health agency said that men who have sex with men face legal or practical discrimination obtaining medical services in many countries — particularly the estimated 76 countries where gay sex is illegal — and are among the hardest-hit by the HIV epidemic.

David Tyree, hero of Giants’ Super Bowl upset of Patriots, said he’d trade win to block gay marriage ALBANY – Giants 2007 Super Bowl hero David Tyree said he’d trade “The Catch” and the team’s unlikely championship to keep marriage between one man and one woman. Tyree is best remembered in his career for his miraculous late-game catch in Super Bowl XLII against the Patriots, trapping the ball against his helmet while being pulled down by New England safety Rodney Harrison.

Joe Jonas Covers ‘Paper’ Magazine’s Summer Music Issue  Joe Jonas looks dapper in a Neil Barretttuxedo, shirt, and bow tie on the cover ofPaper magazine’s Summer Music Issue. Here’s what the 21-year-old entertainer had to share: On branching out from the Jonas Brothers: “My brothers [Kevin and Nick] and I, we’re like each other’s best friends, and I think it’s that foundation that makes me feel like I can really do this on my own for a second.” On the inspiration for his upcoming album, Fastlife: “I don’t mean to name-drop but about a year-and-a-half ago I metBono, and he told me to write music that was really honest, to not be afraid to go there.”

Amy Winehouse Gives Up Amy Winehouse pulls the plug on her entire concert tour. Chris Brown accidentally tweets a private message for Rihanna. Kanye West hides the fact that he has girly alcohol preferences. Tuesday gossip says no, no, no. After her trainwreck performance in Serbia, Amy Winehouse canceled a couple stops on her European tour. Now, she’s canceled the entire tour. No word whether she’s going back to rehab, or just returning to her sad, messy life in England, smoking crack in a house full of half-eaten junk food, dirty laundry, and the feces of mice. UNITED STATES NAVY X390

Following the impending repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” Navy chaplains have been given the go-ahead to perform weddings for same-sex couples in states where marriage equality has been legalized.

An April 13 document from the Office of the Chief of Navy Chaplains was recovered recently, showing that inquiries were made into whether chaplains will be allowed to perform such ceremonies. After legal review “legal counsel has concluded that base use is sexual orientation-neutral. If the base is located in a state where same-sex marriage is legal, then base facilities may normally be used to celebrate the marriage,” the document says.

Chaplains are allowed to officiate same-sex civil marriages if the church they belong to recognizes the union.

This children’s book is the perfect gift for any child who loves a good story and especially children with gay people in their family. The author approaches the subject of same-sex marriage with a child’s sensitivity and sensibility, and the beautiful illustrations are sure to be enjoyed by kids and parents alike.”

“Jesus Had 2 Dads and He Turned Out Fine.” – Dublin

by Accidental Bear

I want to sit homophobes and religious freaks down on a therapist couch and ask them some questions. I would be reserved and refrain from asking, ” What the fuck is wrong with you!”, and maybe ask, “Who hurt you?”, “Why are you so insecure?”, ” Why did you drop out of school in the 5th grade?”, “What deep dark secrets do you hide in our closet?” Those would just be my warm up questions.

Bye-Bye Queerty.com, We Will Miss you

by Accidental Bear

I was just logging on to one of my queer blog staples who had been “off line” for a week fixing emergency repairs, but they have shut their doors, closed up shop and gone. I’m dying to know why. My second favorite queer blog Towleroad, now my number 1, dives in for a closer look. On an up note, on the gay blog food chain, maybe Accidental Bear moves up a notch?

LGBT BLOG QUEERTY CLOSES

Queerty

Following nearly a week in which LGBT blog Queerty was offline, its management has called it quits:

“After more than five years of serving the LGBT community with news and entertainment, Queerty has come to a close. The decision to shutter the site was not an easy one to make, and it is with great pain that we say goodbye to our loyal readership. From all of Queerty’s writers and contributors, from our first unto our last day, thank you for spending some time with us.”

In an email sent out yesterday by its owner David Hauslaib, some explanation was given for the shutdown:

As many of you know, last year Queerty partnered with the folks at 353Media to handle its operations. I transitioned out of my original role to make time to tackle some unrelated projects, and a trusted crew took the reins. Sadly last week, in a scenario that began with some technical headaches, has ended with 353 opting not to continue operating the site. It is a decision I was saddened to hear, and I worked to find an amenable solution that would keep Queerty online. That effort was unsuccessful.

I have watched web properties that I launched come to an close before, but Queerty’s end is certainly one of the hardest to see.

Queerty had cited “technical emergencies” for most of last week while publishing only a Twitter feed.

As someone familiar with both the satisfactions and the challenges that come with keeping up a day-to-day news blog, I can sympathize with the difficulties of letting go. We wish David and his team the best in their new endeavors.

Disgusting Gay Sex For 2 Hours

by Accidental Bear

I am sorry to have to cuss, but what an asshole. When someone goes way out and beyond to hate and teach hate, they are hiding something big. I want a warrant to go into John Hollowells ( I refused to call priests Father. The title is an attempt to cover their perversion and give them some kind of respect which they have NONE of mine) life and pull his demons out of the closet. After watching his videos I puked in my mouth a little bit.

Watch Father John Hollowell Teach Catholic Students About Disgusting Gay Sex For 2 Hours

Father John Hollowell, the chaplain of Indianapolis‘ Cardinal Ritter High School, is less concerned with his pupils scoring high on standardized tests than he is making sure they never have same-sex relations. Because education is nothing if kids don’t learn what is and is not an abomination before god.

After all, “the Bible is completely useless,” Hollowell told the class on Thursday, if homosexuality is “okay in god’s eyes. … Old and New Testament in multiple places say homosexual acts are an ‘abomination,’ a grave offense against God. The Catholic Church upholds that teaching as well. So you have two options: God is cool with homosexuality, homosexual acts, I should say … or what the Bible and the Church say about it is correct? Okay? There’s no middle ground on that issue.” If that weren’t excruciating enough, realize that kids had to sit through two hours of Hollowell’s support of conversion therapy and denunciation of gay marriage and adoption.

News to me! Donald Trump Hates Gay People

by Accidental Bear

No and if buts about it. You are either with us or against us. We are not discussing a so-so film we are talking about peoples lives. So, Donald and your fickin’ hilarious comb-over can SUCK IT. When someone FAILS so badly at his own personal relationships, they should be given a muzzle and by law not a loud to give their 2 cents.

If there’s one thing Donald Trump can do, it is out-do Donald Trump. And he’s done it again with regard for his disdain for homosexuals, with the serial divorcée following up his opposition to same-sex marriage with a declaration in Iowa that gay couples don’t even deserve medical civil benefits: “no and no.”

Surviving gay spouse retains marriage rights. Amen!

by Accidental Bear

Heaven forbid any of us ever have to deal with such things. But the reality is , that this is reality. It is comforting to knows that our backs will be covered and we, as gay people will have the same respect as all human being in such dire times to have our relationship recognized for what they are , LOVE and “MARRIAGE” ( just like the straights but better. Check the statistics) .

NY court rules that surviving gay spouse retains marriage rights

A New York appeals court ruled that the survivor of a gay marriage could receive the inheritance from his male spouse on Thursday, even though New York does not yet allow legal gay marriages to be performed in the state.

J. Craig Leiby and H. Kenneth Rantfle were legally married in Canada in 2008. Three years ago, Rantfle died of lung cancer and left the majority of his estate to Leiby. But Rantfle’s brother contested the will, saying that Leiby’s inheritance would violate New York law, according to CBS New York.

Gay marriages are illegal in New York, but the state recognizes legal out of state and out of country marriages; therefore the court ruled that Leiby is legally entitled to the inheritance as a surviving spouse.

Lambada Legal said the decision was the first of its kind at an appellate level in New York, according to the Huffington Post.

Lambada’s senior counsel member Susan Somer said the decision “puts to rest the idea that out-of-state marriages of same-sex couples could be vulnerable to attack.”

Protest In Support Of Same Sex Marriage Planned At SF City Hall Monday

via http://sfappeal.com

Marriage equality supporters throughout the Bay Area will be gathering in San Francisco and Martinez on Valentine’s Day to protest the state’s ban on same-sex marriage.

Several dozen same-sex couples, accompanied by supporters, will be asking for marriage licenses at City Hall as a way to expose the discrimination organizers say Proposition 8 re-imposed on Californians.

Proposition 8, enacted by voters as a state constitutional amendment in November 2008, mandates that “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid in California.”

Elton John lashes out at gay marriage opponents

YOU TELL IT HOW IT IS SIR ( COUGH) ELTON

Don’t let the sun go down on you ( snap fingers in circle), for you take that golden brick road home and count your bling!

VIA– Entertainment – GMANews.TV – Official Website of GMA News and Public Affairs – Latest Philippine News

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Has fatherhood changed Sir Elton John‘s feelings about marriage for same-sex couples?

The 63-year-old singer made several blunt comments on the topic Wednesday night while performing at a private fundraiser for the ongoing legal challenge to California’s gay marriage ban.

“It seems so ridiculous I could be with my partner for 17 years and we have a son, and my partner and I can’t get married,” John said during the 90-minute set at a sprawling Beverly Hills estate in which he banged out “Your Song,” “Sixty Years On,” “Levon” and other hits he wrote before he came out as gay.

Same-sex couples mark 10th anniversary

Joe Varnell, left, and Kevin Bourassa of Toronto were the first North American gay men to be legally married.Joe Varnell, left, and Kevin Bourassa of Toronto were the first North American gay men to be legally married. (J.P. Moczulski/Associated Press)Two same-sex Canadian couples who made international headlines and North American history by being the first to be legally married, will renew their vows, along with 50 others, in a 10th-anniversary celebration Friday.

Joe Varnell and Kevin Bourassa, along with Anne and Elaine Vautour, were the first same-sex couples to be married in Toronto at Riverdale’s Metropolitan Community Church on Jan. 14, 2001.

Since then, same-sex marriage has been upheld as a constitutional right across Canada. It has also become legal in several other countries and states.

But getting to this point has not come easy. There were court battles right up to the Supreme Court of Canada.

“I had no idea how huge this was going to be for so many people. It made a huge difference in the world,” said Anne Vautour.

The couple have buffed up their wedding rings for their big event. “After 10 years they’re looking a little scratchy, so we had them polished,” added Elaine Vautour.
