Video | Paul Smith Men’s Collection Autumn/Winter 2011

by Accidental Bear

“A video presenting Paul Smith’s awesome winter styles, like the silver down jackets, raw edge shirts and zip lapel jackets. An AW11 collection inspired by the individual style and work of legendary avant-garde musicians such as Frank Zappa, with a focus on tailoring and strong, extreme variations on the shirts, knits and outerwear.” Via Por Vocacao.

Dressing Taller: 10 Tips for Short Men brought to you by The Art of Manliness Website

by Accidental Bear

Via artofmanliness.com : Good work men.

10 Tips on Dressing Taller

FYI – I put these ten tips in orders of practicality and cost.  I realize some of these are beyond some men’s resources or not options worth considering–but I lay them out there so that you can make that decision yourself.

1. Monochromatic Color Themes

Along the same lines as minimizing visual clutter, removing contrasting color from your appearance helps streamline the way you look. Keeping all your clothes within a fairly consistent color theme, especially a dark one, will create an illusion of height. Different color shades are fine–just try to keep it loosely monochrome.

When you do wear different colors or different shades of the same color, try to weight the darker colors toward the bottom half of your body. That way people’s attention starts down near your feet and travels upward. Dark trousers with a lighter shirt create a lengthening effect; a darker shirt with lighter pants shortens your appearance.

Levi’s Made & Crafted

by Accidental Bear

Levi does the body good. Good to the last drop

made crafted 01 selectism Selectism Q&A | Levis Made & Crafted
Levi’s Made & Crafted was founded on a simple premise – “Modern items based on the principles of good design.” In that mission, the Levi’s DNA forms a backbone for forward thinking approaches to classic garments and accessories, all of which privileges the right fabrics and the correct manufacturing. For Autumn 2011 the line, now in its second full season, has expanded to include knits, shirting, and a special capsule collection of “Made in the USA” denim. The looks are contemporary and fresh, but with a decidedly familiar feel; the balance of new and old in the pieces struck admirably. We caught up with the Amsterdam based Made & Crafted design team to chat about the Autumn 2011 collection and to see what the future holds for the line. Our discussion, and some fine garments, after the jump. (Selectism)

Timber! T-shirts: Only 161 Days until Christmas

by Accidental Bear

the t-shirts…
TIMBER! t-shirts are hand-drawn and hand-screened in a garage in California. All shirts are made in the USA.

www.timberpreservationsociety.com

the beginning…
In early 2006, artist and six year screenprinter, Chad Eaton, drew a lumberjack line drawing and printed it on a few t-shirts for his own amusement. Friends began asking for them. Friends of friends began asking for them, and before he knew it, he was listing them online for sale. This became the perfect outlet for Chad’s drawings, and to Chad’s surprise, has continued to grow year after year.

the story…
All of the TIMBER! designs fit into a story that sets a conflict between lumberjacks and their bosses with forest dwellers, including bigfoot, stuck in the middle. Each design adds more to the story, and as a body of work, have created a complex mythology involving issues with environment and labor among other things.

Update: Old Navy Gets Backlash for Gay T-Shirts

by Accidental Bear

I keep updating you on the Old Navy gay t-shirt debacle because I find it fascination how a good deed can turn ugly so fast. Homophobes wait in the shadows to pounce as soon as their precious heterosexual existence is threatened; gross. AB

OLD NAVY T-SHIRTS (FAIR) ADVOCATE.COM
Shirts will be on sale through the end of June.

Right-wing activists who are used to seeing an American flag across the front of Old Navy t-shirts are calling for a boycott of the clothing chain for its new prints featuring rainbow flags.

Old Navy is celebrating gay pride by donating 10 percent of proceeds from the new shirts to the It Gets Better Project, which helps to combat teen suicide. And for that, the American Family Association says the store should be “ashamed.”

Christians Now Hate Old Navy: But What Will they Wear?

by Accidental Bear

Gary Cass of DefendChristians.org says Old Navy is promoting a lifestyle that is in “complete rebellion against God.”

“Rather just focusing on giving good products to their customers, they want to use their products now to advocate for a very controversial topic, much less a very immoral and very deadly topic,” notes Cass.

The T-shirt designs include a white shirt with “Love Proudly” written in the colors of the rainbow, and a black shirt with rainbow-colored stripes. Cass tells OneNewsNow that an economic dent in the company’s profits may be the only way to change things.

“Unfortunately we have to do the hard work of communicating our outrage, our frustration — and then following that up with some kind of practical expression such as taking your business elsewhere,” he suggests.

According to reports, the T-shirts will be available at 27 Old Navy stores until the end of June or until supplies run out. Facebook followers of Old Navy’s “Love Proudly” campaign are criticizing the retailer for not distributing the shirts through all of its outlets and only making a few dozen available at the select locations.

‘Cause if You Liked it, You Better Put a Patch on it, oh oh oh…

by Accidental Bear

Normally you might find patchwork in the Haight and Asbury area or on your favorite pair of jeans that you are in denial that they need to be thrown away. Band of Outsiders “tries” to rock it out this season. Would you be caught wearing this? I would, maybe on a rainy Sunday, where I don’t plan on running into too many people.

If you’ve followed this site for any amount of time, you’ll know about our love for patchwork. Yeah, we still like it – no matter how many ‘it looks like grandma’s old quilt’ jokes we get thrown our way. This one’s from the Band and, as far as patchwork goes, it’s pretty tame – which is a good thing. (Aloha Rag)

Short Sleeved Sweatshirt a Flashback to Rocky Balboa

by Accidental Bear

A throw back to the mid 80’s when Rocky Balboa rule the movie screen. I sat there in my green sweat shirt, cut off sleeves, and cropped to the belly button, praying for Adrienne to make out with Rocky. These short sleeved sweatshirts are obviously flooding me with memories of the 80s. Not sure if will be able to sport this look again.

A perennial summer contender, the short sleeved sweatshirt is back again and this is the time we think it’s gonna break through the barrier. The colour might be a little off putting to some folks, but just call it washed red instead of pink and you’ll be fine. (ASOS)

This is Not a Polo Shirt; Band of Outsiders

by Accidental Bear

These non-polos are a fresh spin on the shirts I was sporting in my 4th, 5th and 6th grade school pictures. I’m thinking about bringing back the bowl cut for a complete ensemble. What’s the difference between polo and rugby shirts?

This is not a Polo Shirt by Band of Outsiders for Spring/Summer 2011

This is Not a Polo Shirt is a spin-off of the Band of Outsiders collection. What they are of course is just that. Variations of the classic polo and well done. “Reimagined by way of color combination, stripe type, and artful ornament, each shirt this season brings a lovable, LA touch to the tennis court constant.” Opening Ceremony has them.

The Short Sleeved Shirt is Still a Polarizing Piece

by Accidental Bear

I have trouble with shirts with collars in general. I have a serious complex about looking like a preppy, some sort of mid-life crisis of sorts. Anytime I  have a button on and  look in the mirror, I see preppy, even if my shirt were to have skull and cross bone buttons. Sounds like a personal problem , huh? But I find my way around this if the shirt is fitted well or too small. I’ll go for a tad to small over baggy any day. Most shirts I find while thrifting are tiny, so I usually don’t have a choice. I am tragically hip.

The short sleeved shirt is still a polarizing piece. Some hate it, some love it. Us? We’re in between. Like all things menswear, it’s the way you do it that defines whether it’ll look good or not. It’s fair to say that as long as you steer clear of an awkward and puffy sleeve, you should be fine. (Opening Ceremony)

“Confessions of a Hairy Backed Man”

‘Fur Back’ T-Shirts Just in Time for Spring

Are you a furback and proud of it? Why not advertise your hyper-hirsute status with one of these great new T-shirts? The actual text of the shirt reads “Fur is Back” but the “is” is cleverly minimized so that the shirt reads “FUR BACK” from a distance — thumbs up for putting the words on the back of the shirt, too.

Comes in a wide rainbow of colors and in all sizes, can be ordered online fromwww.bearnation.us.

Of course, if you really want to broadcast that you’re a furback, you take your T-shirt off, but this is the next best thing if you’re cold or shy.

(Personally, I kind of love the term “furback” — in fact, it might be my favorite term for my people.) Posted by HairyBackedMan
