Cher: I Admire Chaz’s Courage

by Accidental Bear

It is small stories of acceptance like this, that show’s the rest of the world, primarily the mid-west, that Fuck, look at me I’m Cher and I have a trans son, whatcha’ gonna do about it (pumps up chest, hands risen gangster style)! I cannot imagine the mixed emotions one might go through having your child switch sex, but hey I think as hay-homosexuals we should just say to ourselves, “What would Cher do? “- AB

Cher is more supportive than ever to her son, Chaz, who legally changed his gender and name last year.

The iconic singer held a small screening of the upcoming documentary Becoming Chaz at her Malibu home over the weekend. “Cher and 10 of her and Chaz’s friends stood up and cheered when it was over,” a friend of Cher’s tells PEOPLE.

The friend says Cher told her during the screening, “I admire my son Chaz’s courage for sharing his personal journey. Most important to me is that he is very happy. That’s what I care about the most. He has my love and support.”

Chaz, who was born Chastity Bono to the famed singing duo, Sonny and Cher, started his female-to-male sex change March 2009, shortly after his 40th birthday. The documentary tells the story of his transformation from a woman to a man. It is scheduled to air on Oprah‘s OWN Network next week. READ MORE

Advocates Rally in Support of Transgender Beating Victim

by Accidental Bear

What is most disturbing about this video of a trans women being attacked is the amount of men that didn’t lift a finger to help, but egged on the situation with laughter and a playful banter that would make anyone with a conscience, sick to their stomach. – AB

On Monday, hundreds of people rallied in front of the McDonald’s restaurant in Maryland where a transgender woman was viciously beaten by two teenage girls.

The victim, 23-year-old Chrissy Polis did not attend the rally but members of her family showed up in support, including her mother, Renee Carr.
“The turnout tonight is wonderful, I’m so happy,” Carr said. “I didn’t think that McDonald’s was a dangerous place, all she wanted to do was eat and use the bathroom.”

Last week Polis was attacked outside of the restroom in the restaurant. A worker recorded the beating which shows Polis trying to defend herself. The video was posted online and quickly went viral.

A female customer, 55-year-old Vicki Thoms, tried to intervene but was struck in the face by one of the attackers.
