Levi’s Vintage Clothing Double Breasted Parka

by Accidental Bear

Selectism - lvc-parka-01

You may have flashbacks to 90’s pea coats but give it a fresh make over of a plaid lining, corduroy collar, two side flap pockets and horn buttons. This coat is most definitely worth arm wrestling your best friend over or stealing from some trick at a bar (I didn’t say that).

S.F. Gay Married Couple Loses Immigration Battle, Every Gay Loses

by Accidental Bear

As gays we are always in the game of 1 step forward two steps backwards. I think it should be made mandatory to look under the ugly masks of republicans to see if they are hiding any devil horns. We all should be sickened by this story. I feel like a good old fashion Harvey Milk riot should occur. AB

via www.sfgate.com

Citing the Defense of Marriage Act, the Obama administration denied immigration benefits to a married gay couple from San Francisco and ordered the expulsion of a man who is the primary caregiver to his AIDS-afflicted spouse.

Bradford Wells, a U.S. citizen, and Anthony John Makk, a citizen of Australia, were married seven years ago in Massachusetts. They have lived together 19 years, mostly in an apartment in the Castro district. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services denied Makk’s application to be considered for permanent residency as a spouse of an American citizen, citing the 1996 law that denies all federal benefits to same-sex couples.

The decision was issued July 26. Immigration Equality, a gay-rights group that is working with the couple, received the notice Friday and made it public Monday. Makk was ordered to depart the United States by Aug. 25. Makk is the sole caregiver for Wells, who has severe health problems.

“I’m married just like any other married person in this country,” Wells said. “At this point, the government can come in and take my husband and deport him. It’s infuriating. It’s upsetting. I have no power, no right to keep my husband in this country. I love this country, I live here, I pay taxes and I have no right to share my home with the person I married.”

Does the Law Allow Jurors to be Dismissed for Being Gay?

by Accidental Bear

Wow, this would be great, then I could stop playing crazy, unstable and a tear producing fool to get out of my duty. AB

JURY JURORS COURT LAW X390 (PHOTOS) | ADVOCATE.COMA lesbian was allegedly kicked off a jury because of her orientation, and now lawyers are arguing to a federal appeals court that it should never happen again, the Los Angeles Timesreports.

The woman was bumped from the trial of a gay Nigerian who was later convicted of assaulting a guard at a jail in Los Angeles. In his defense, Daniel Osazuwa had claimed he was merely giving the guard a hug, which he says is a sign of respect where he’s from, when the homophobic guard overreacted and caused a scuffle.  via Advocate

SF CA: Raising Awareness for Hepatitis C

by Accidental Bear

I am immune to everything since my morning routine consists of bathing in bleach, removing all body hair, gargling with Raid, slipping a full body condom  on, elbow high gloves, protected glasses and I only breathe pure oxygen from a tank I wheel behind ,e in a red wagon. Hep still scares me though. Read on… AB

District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener, left, holds up a T-shirt given to him by Nina Grossman, a member of the San Francisco Hepatitis C Task Force, during an outreach event at Harvey Milk Plaza in the Castro Thursday, July 28, which was World Hepatitis Day. There are an estimated 12,000 San Franciscans infected with hepatitis C, with most not aware of their status. The disease disproportionately affects African Americans, Latinos, veterans, people involved with the criminal justice system, injection drug users, men who have sex with men, people with HIV, immigrants, and low-income people.

SF CA: Police still searching for gay man’s Killer a Year Later

by Accidental Bear

This story has hit a heart string for me seeing that the murder occurred a block from my house. When the who, what and why’s are left unanswered my mind fills in the unknown with the worst case scenario. Let’s find this killer!

via B.A.R.

Last weekend marked the first anniversary of the murder of San Francisco resident Philip DiMartino. The gay 36-year-old was found dead in his apartment, located at 138 Hermann Street, on August 2, 2010.

The person responsible for DiMartino’s death hasn’t been caught, and police, family, and friends are hoping someone will come forward with information.

“This weekend was rough,” Lisa DiMartino, 39, DiMartino’s sister, said in an interview Monday, August 1. “My family and I think about Phil every day, of course, but hitting the one-year mark was tough.”

In its report on DiMartino’s death, the San Francisco Medical Examiner’s office said injuries included 48 stab wounds, most of them in his back. The cause of death was listed as “sharp force injuries with blunt force injuries.”

DiMartino’s body was found after a co-worker who had gone to check on him looked through a window and saw “a pair of what appeared to be bloody legs on the floor,” the report said. The co-worker did not enter the apartment, according to the report.

World Premiere of “Outlaws of Love” – Adam Lambert – HD Live – Sainte Agathe

by Accidental Bear

ADAM LAMBERT OUTLAWS OF LOVE 390x (SCREEN) ADVOCATE.COMI believe most writers learn a lot about themselves through writing about others and thinking about your reading audience. Adam Lambert does not fit into my music box but I am all about applauding for a gay brother. As I race towards 40, I feel as if there isn’t as much room in me for hate and judgment and find more pleasure in giving my gays shout outs and instead of useless bashing of words. Adam, I stand up out of my chair and clapping for your effort put into your new single “Outlaw of Love.”

Adam Lambert performed a song off of his upcoming album at the Sainte Agathe Festival in Canada on July 29, 2011.

Naked & Famous Glow in the Dark Selvedge Denim Jeans

by Accidental Bear

These jeans will be desired by some and to ween down that grouping more is their price of $240. I was working retail back in the peak of raver day’s and can remember these little, brightly colored kids, sucking of pacifiers and glow sticks usually had mommy and daddy’s gold card in their back pocket. I call that roughing it, not! So, these pants will still be worn by those trying to get away with their down and out-starving-artist-wannabe-look. Money is nothing to be ashamed of, I just don’t have any.

GlowintheDark.jpg

Sartorially-minded ravers everywhere rejoice: your uniform for this fall has been decided. Naked & Famous recently dropped their unique Japanese selvedge creation on select Barneys New York and Barneys CO-OP locations.

See, the secret is in the phosphorescent coating which, when exposed to natural or artificial light (read: wearing them all day) absorbs and charges that light and then BAM! You step into your favorite lounge or dive bar looking like a walking glow stick. But, during work hours, these go-to worthy pair of straight leg 13.5 oz. raw indigo denims will keep you the incognito Clark Kent of clubland: safe until the sun sets…

Hairy Men and Hard Alcohol: Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Whiskey Waxing Event

by Accidental Bear

This week artist Walter Green takes the helm of Drawing Crowds. Jay Sacher, the column’s originator, has moved onto greener pastures back East. He will be missed!

To kick things off, Drawing Crowds bravely waded into a gathering of hirsute men (and the people who love them) having their facial hair massaged into wacky shapes as part of Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Whiskey Waxing event, designed to accompany the ongoing exhibit, Bay Area Now 6.

Gay Couple Frees Coyote From Giant Mayonnaise Jar: Gay Super Heros

by Accidental Bear

Gay super hero role models! Ok, maybe that is over doing it, but not if you were this poor little curious coyote. AB

Two Seattle men came to the aid of a coyote pup with an unusual predicament. The pup had a jar stuck on his head. People who live in the area had become concerned and called animal control because the pup had been stuck for at least a week. Roel Garcia says he and his partner, Jeff Bryant, had not seen any news reports about the pup and were taking a break from working in their back yard on Sunday when he saw the coyote approaching.

It was standing just a few feet from Bryant. Garcia said the pup looked weak and they could see the outline of his ribs through his fur. “I doubt he could see anything through the jar, let alone smell or hear my partner,” said Garcia. Bryant waited until the pup turned its head and then he leapt towards the pup, but the pup saw him and tried to run away. “My partner said that he saw that the pup had stumbled and fallen so my partner again leapt to the pup and was able to catch him,” said Garcia. Bryant pulled the jar off the pup’s head and the pup quickly ran back into the wooded area. * Researchers Focus on LGBT Mormons  In what may be a first-of-its-kind study, researchers at Utah State University are reaching out to nearly 1,000 LGBT Mormons to learn more about their experience within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  The 149-question survey is being distributed via gay-positive Mormon groups, as well as networks for those who believe that sexual orientation can be changed, the Associated Press reports. Among other questions, the study asks respondents whether they have suffered violence or teasing within the church community, and how they “view God’s response” to their sexual orientation.

Levi’s Made & Crafted

by Accidental Bear

Levi does the body good. Good to the last drop

made crafted 01 selectism Selectism Q&A | Levis Made & Crafted
Levi’s Made & Crafted was founded on a simple premise – “Modern items based on the principles of good design.” In that mission, the Levi’s DNA forms a backbone for forward thinking approaches to classic garments and accessories, all of which privileges the right fabrics and the correct manufacturing. For Autumn 2011 the line, now in its second full season, has expanded to include knits, shirting, and a special capsule collection of “Made in the USA” denim. The looks are contemporary and fresh, but with a decidedly familiar feel; the balance of new and old in the pieces struck admirably. We caught up with the Amsterdam based Made & Crafted design team to chat about the Autumn 2011 collection and to see what the future holds for the line. Our discussion, and some fine garments, after the jump. (Selectism)

Local Musician Steve Taylor Performing at The Independent on Saturday, July 30th

by Accidental Bear

Steve Taylor has played and recorded with a number of bands in his time – Rogue Wave, Vetiver, Avi Buffalo, The Botticellis and more – but he’s somehow also managed to find time for his own music. Mixing psych, folk and soul into a classic-sounding pop melange, Taylor and his band are performing at The Independent on Saturday, July 30th (9pm, $10), with A B and the Sea and Benyaro.

In the above video, from the third annual Mother Hips Family Hipnic in Big Sur in May, Taylor performs a soft-pop gem joined by Andy Cabic (Vetiver), Eric Johnson (Fruit Bats) and Farmer Dave Scher.

Tim Gunn: Hillary Clinton Dresses Like “She’s Confused About Her Gender”

by Accidental Bear

You tell it how it is Tim! And hey, what are you hiding under those turtle necks you are always wearing? It just got me thinking. AB

Apparently, it never gets old to mock Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s “cankles” and pantsuits, at least if you’re Tim Gunn and George Lopez, who took the sexist trash-talking to the next level on Lopez’s show last night.

Gunn referred bitingly to her “Jersey Shorestyle,” and Lopez compared her prints to No Bugs M’Lady. It got worse.

I Officially Love New York: First Same-sex couple Legally Marry in the State of New York

by Accidental Bear

I too, hope to look as happy and handsome as they do in my life time. NY thank you for leading the game.

Happy Couple of the Day

At Midnight tonight, Kitty Lambert (left) and Cheryle Rudd became the first same-sex couple to legally marry in the state of New York.

“By the power vested in me by the laws of the state of New York I now pronounce you legally married,” said Niagara Falls Paul A Dyster, who presided over the couple’s civil ceremony, shortly after the clock’s struck midnight.

Today also happened to be the 12th anniversary of Lambert and Rudd’s first date.

“This is one of the most incredible moments of my personal life,” Lambert said before the ceremony, “but it’s also an incredible moment for New York.”
