Levi’s Made & Crafted

Levi does the body good. Good to the last drop

Levi’s Made & Crafted was founded on a simple premise – “Modern items based on the principles of good design.” In that mission, the Levi’s DNA forms a backbone for forward thinking approaches to classic garments and accessories, all of which privileges the right fabrics and the correct manufacturing. For Autumn 2011 the line, now in its second full season, has expanded to include knits, shirting, and a special capsule collection of “Made in the USA” denim. The looks are contemporary and fresh, but with a decidedly familiar feel; the balance of new and old in the pieces struck admirably. We caught up with the Amsterdam based Made & Crafted design team to chat about the Autumn 2011 collection and to see what the future holds for the line. Our discussion, and some fine garments, after the jump. (Selectism)

BIO:

Steven Beckly is a photo-based artist living and working in Toronto, Canada. His artistic practice explores the complexities of identity, relationships, intimacy, and sexuality in contemporary experience. Blending diaristic, documentary, and cinematographic approaches, his work predominantly employs portraiture infused with biographical elements and idealized fiction. Performance plays an important role in his process, and constructed environments provide the context for his images.

He is interested in reconstructing personal and intimate realities and replaying emotional conditions to transform ordinary moments into universal sentiments. Seemingly fictionalized characters are placed in fragmented and open-ended narratives, creating space for imagined structure, context, and meaning. By exploring the connections between the individual, the collective, and their environments, he continually aspires to portray emotional intricacies that comprise and reveal layers of human experience.

His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography (Toronto, ON), Newspace Center for Photography (Portland, OR), Photo Center NW (Seattle, WA), and the University of the Arts (Philadelphia, PA). His images have been featured in major international publications, including Photo Life (Canada), The Photo Review (USA), and Photo World (China). Recently, he was awarded the Director’s Choice Award at the 2010 CENTER Awards (Santa Fe, NM).
