Artist and beard connoisseur Chris Sollars takes one of his afternoon walks making public sculptures with found trash and debris on the streets of his San Francisco Mission neighborhood. Sollars documents the sculptures with photos and leaves them behind. Sollars is a collaborator along with Comstock Saloon here in San Francisco that will bring us Whiskey Waxing beard and mustache competition on Monday Aug 15, 2011. Bring your whiskers and sip whiskey. Sollar could be the poster child for Accidental Bear: Art, beard, style and a whole lot of spunk!
[vimeo 25361014 w= 400 l=224]Industrial designer and tinkerer Markus Kayser spent the better part of a year building and experimenting with two fantastic devices that harness the sun’s power in some of the world’s harshest climates. The first he calls a Sun Cutter, a low-tech light cutter that uses a large ball lens to focus the sun’s rays onto a surface that’s moved by a cam-guided system. As the surface moves under the magnified light it cuts 2D components like a laser. The project was tested for the first time in August 2010 in the Egyptian desert and Kayser used thin plywood to create the parts for a few pairs of pretty sweet shades. But he didn’t stop there. The first video was filmed in conjunction with the Courage Campaign’s testimony project. Black and the Courage Campaign are urging people to share their testimony and tell people why they’re fighting for equal rights for LGBT people.

Growing up I had a skate board, it was mostly carried. I enjoyed more my asymetrical hair cut and Chuck Taylors that went along with it. The whole undergorund skater- macho vibe intrigued me and pushed my horny button for lack of better words. Many of my straight male skater mates of that time gave me some restless nights, of no sleep at our drunken- lcd- weed induced black out sleep overs. Little did they know the sexual acrobatics that were going on in my head as they snored themselves to sleep to Social Distortion playing on the radio. Tony Alva was a named that rolled off our tongues often. Good to hear he is well and spiritually enlightened.

I feel as if Mr Ward has had a rebirth. He first caught my attention when he was Madonna‘s boyfriend in the beginning of the 1990s and he appeared in some of her music videos as well as the controversial SEX book in 1992. What drove me home was his role in 1996 – Hustler White by Bruce LaBruce and Rick Castro. He drips of sleazy, sexy. Maybe the bad boy you wouldn’t bring home to mom but the one who would have all your friends green with envy. Ohhhh Tony, CALL ME!
