Director hopes new film will be ‘Brokeback Mountain’ for atheists “This could be the Brokeback Mountain moment for atheists, our tipping point, when we finally get the attention we deserve,” Chapman wrote on the film’s website. “Although books have put atheists into the intellectual mainstream, The Ledge is the first Hollywood drama to target the broader movie-going public with an openly atheist hero in a production big enough to attract A-list stars. This is unprecedented.”

Bachmann Won’t Say Whether Clinics Try to Convert Gays

Rep. Michele Bachmann claims it would be immoral to say whether her husband’s clinics perform so-called reparative therapy on gay people. “Those matters are protected by patient-client confidentiality,” her campaign staff said in a statement issued to ABC News, which is reporting on the issue tonight. “The Bachmanns are in no position ethically, legally, or morally to discuss specific courses of treatment concerning the clinic’s patients.”

(RNS) The anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church has announced plans to picket this week’s funeral services for former first lady Betty Ford in California and Michigan. The website of the Topeka, Kansas-based church said the fringe group will demonstrate at Ford’s funerals because she divorced her first husband William Warren prior to marrying the late president Gerald R. Leather Hand Carved Wallets by Salvation Nation

by Accidental Bear

Imagine it, 1978, tight bell bottoms, striped turtle necks and fantastic leather belts. I remember having a huge brown belt that hugged my tiny 6 yr old frame and carved into the leather was an eagle and a sunrise. Where is that belt know, I wonder.

I will give up the idea of coming across that belt and move on. To replace it I have just the thing, masterfully hand carved, sturdy , rugged masculine wallets with a touch of “camp.” It’s time to retire my velcro Volcom wallet (god I love you) and get  one of these sexy wallets by Salvation Nation. I will most definitely be the coolest guy in line at Safeway when I yank it out to pay for my goods.

“The Elements of F*cking Style” Book

by Accidental Bear

elements of fcking style book The Elements of F*cking Style Book

Cool Hunting points us at a new book that looks to refresh your knowledge on grammar and the proper use of the English langues. The Elements of F*cking Style out now, looks to make the lessons and reminder a fun affair. “The truth about English is that it can get pretty boring. Dangling modifiers, gerunds, punctuation marks–it’s enough to make you want to drop out of high school. Swearing and sex on the other hand, well, these time-honored pastimes warm the cockles of our hearts. Now, The Elements of F*cking Style drags English grammar out of the ivory tower and into the gutter, injecting a dull subject with a much-needed dose of color.” (selectism)

The View On Michele Bachmann & The Marriage Vow: I chose Whoopi On My Team √

by Accidental Bear

If I were in a street fight, I would want Whoopi on my side. Republican presidential contenders Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum have lined up behind a new pledge focused on social issues put forth by Bob Vander Plaats, a former candidate for governor who now reigns as a conservative kingmaker in the Hawkeye State. Vander Plaats heads the Iowa-based Family Leader, a conservative group. Signing “The Marriage Vow — A Declaration of Dependence Upon Marriage and Family” is a requirement for earning the organization’s endorsement. Standing behind the pledge entails supporting a “federal Marriage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which protects the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman.” Among other things, it also means backing a ban on pornography.

Todd was speaking on Sunday’s “Meet the Press.” Palin is the subject of a lengthy cover story in the latest issue of “Newsweek.” The tagline on the cover reads, “I Can Win.” Not so fast, said Todd. “It feels like she is simply trying to go out on her own terms,” he said, adding that Palin’s message seemed to be, “I could win, but I don’t need it.”
