Following a group of men as they travel the country in search of top honors in a host of competitions, from the National Beard and Mustache Championship in Bend, OR to the World Competition in Norway. With Germany the reigning champion, over 80 local U.S. chapters attempt to come together to form Beard Team USA. Series personalities include Jack Passion (Calif.), a world beard champion and author of “Facial Hair Handbook;” Myk O’Connor (Brooklyn, NY), a member of the Gotham City Beardsmen Alliance; and Bryan Nelson and Allen Demling, of the Austin Facial Hair Club.

NPR’s Featured ‘Ex-Gay’ Guest Commits Over $200,000 To Dangerous, Unscientific Ex-Gay ‘Coachings National Public Radio has yet to apologize for the platform it provided Rich Wyler on Monday to spout as many lies about sexual orientation as he could fit into the segment. NPR featured Wyler for being ex-gay and allowed him to testify about all the promise he believes reparative therapy offers to people not happy with their same-sex attractions, despite the fact that there is scientific consensus that ex-gay therapy is harmful and ineffective. But NPR made another big journalistic mistake besides its inappropriate framing of ex-gay therapy — the story neglected to mention that Wyler makes his entire living off of providing ex-gay therapy to vulnerable and insecure men he convinces to try to change.

It Gets Better — Even for Adventists While activists within the denomination are trying to change its policies, the official Adventist position is not accepting of LGBT people. That position, as spelled out on the denomination’swebsite, is that sexual activity is reserved for marriage between a man and a woman and that “God’s Word does not countenance a homosexual lifestyle.” The church characterizes homosexuality as “a manifestation of the disorder and brokenness in human inclinations and relations caused by sin coming into the world.”

The bill, which seeks to address some of the “privileges” afforded to the gay community, is currently “awaiting the approval from Gilberto Kassab, the city’s mayor.” Brazil offers same-sex couples many of the same benefits as opposite-sex couples, but does not recognize marriage equality. Last month, however, a judge allowed a same sex-couple to wed.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           PAWLENTY AND SANTORUM JOIN HATE GROUP’S ‘VALUES’ IOWA BUS TOUR The Family Research Council, National Organization for Marriage, and Susan B. Anthony List, along with Reps. Steve King (R-IA) and Louie Gohmert (R-TX), are chartering an anti-gay, anti-choice “Values Voter” bus tour across Iowa next week. GOP presidential candidates Tim Pawlenty and Rick Santorum have already committed to participating in the tour and Michele Bachmann and others are expected to join as well. The hate-driven tour will hit 22 cities over four days, passing through 47 of Iowa’s 99 counties.

I Art You: Human Hair Castles

Amazing use of human hair, but gross. Human hair off the head makes my stomach turn. But this is worth a look.

Artist Agustina Woodgate has built two model castles, each about 4′ high, out of human hair. They’re part of  a series called “I Wanted to Be a Princess” series.

Her “Sandcastle” combines different colors of hair into a clay-colored mess, while her “Tower” uses 3,000 “bricks” of grey and white hair collected from senior citizens to simulate stones. [odditycentral]

World Premiere of “Outlaws of Love” – Adam Lambert – HD Live – Sainte Agathe

I believe most writers learn a lot about themselves through writing about others and thinking about your reading audience. Adam Lambert does not fit into my music box but I am all about applauding for a gay brother. As I race towards 40, I feel as if there isn’t as much room in me for hate and judgment and find more pleasure in giving my gays shout outs and instead of useless bashing of words. Adam, I stand up out of my chair and clapping for your effort put into your new single “Outlaw of Love.”

Action Bronson, is an American rapper/producer, with Albanian descent. His stage name derives from gangster William “Action” Jackson, and mafioso actor Charles Bronson.

Background

Action was born and raised in Flushing, Queens, and is currently working at a yet unknown restaurant in New York City, and frequently raps about food in his songs. He has gained notoriety for being a sound-alike to rapper Ghostface Killah (who he collaborated with, along with friend, and fellow rapper Termanology on a song called “Meteor Hammer” on Wu-Tang Clan‘s 2011 album Legendary Weapons). In a interview with HipHopDX, he was asked about how it was to sound like him, and he responded with,

“Yeah, I mean at the end of the day, it’s all good because Ghostface Killah is one of the best rappers alive, so if I sound similar to the best rapper alive then that is fine. To me there is no comparison; he is a legend and I am a newcomer. If I would try and emulate with anyone it would be Kool G. Rap, he is the person I look up to the most. In the end, I am not upset but at the end of the day I am my own person and no one can take that away from me.” ^[3]

He recently released his debut studio album Dr. Lecter, which is available in digital download.

As a general rule, mammal species with big bodies tend to have big brains. If you know the weight of a mammal’s body, you can make a fairly good guess about how large its brain will be. As far as scientists can tell, this rule derives from the fact that the more body there is, the more neurons needed to control it. But this body-to-brain rule isn’t perfect. Some species deviate a little from it. A few deviate a lot. We humans are particularly spectacular rule breakers. If we were an ordinary mammal species, our brains would be about one-sixth their actual size.
